My favorite part of this program on PBS would be Savion Glover, performing his tap dancing skills! : )

If you haven't seen Tap the full movie (1989) with Gregory Hines, Sammy Davis, Jr., Savion Glover, AND other extremely talented+++ dancers of yesteryear, it exists right here on YT. I am in no way connected with it. I just think it is informative and heartrenderingly beautiful!

I love tap. Took it as a child and even did it on breaks when I worked in a factory. It is a fantastic fun thing to learn!

Anyone knows the name of the lady in the purple jumpsuit at 29.05? With the bass player. Couldn't catch her name. Thanks a lot!

A wonderful spectacular exhibition of the incredible skills of the beautiful art of tap. It has blown me away. Gregory was an inspiration with the Masters of tap and the entire cast. Young Savion has taken forward the next generation to maintain the beauty of the art. Loved every joyous moment. God bless Gregory (gone too soon, his work was not yet finished) together with Hinton Battle, Sandman Sims, Jimmy Slyde, Honi Coles, Buster Brown. RIP the greatest

Just got through watching Tap again, and in the extras this was mentioned. I just had to have some more of Hines and these old hoofers tapping. Thank you, KZfaq.

Sandman is funny. I like the way Gregory stands up to him, telling Sandman that he likes his taps tight. When Tommy & Gregory tap slow together it's helpful to those new to this, see the steps and learn to relate what they see and hear. Thanks for posting.

I wonder if he ever made a statement about Eleanor Powell? Fayard Nicholas, of the Nicholas Brothers, claimed that she was not only the BEST Tap Dancer ever but the best Dancer Period!

Yes, he had a lot of admiration for Eleanor Powell.

Savion took it to another level. I've seen his show on Bway 2 times and was blown away each time I got goosebumps! Damn, I'd give anything just to be in the back of the room with all those great Tap Dancers. I'd be so quiet they would never know I was there.
@karendouglas90273 жыл бұрын
Guess you never saw Greg and Baryshnikov in White Nights. Or saw Greg live. Davion is great, often mentored by Greg, but Savion's only brought it maybe to Greg Hines's level.
@MrHammer1023 жыл бұрын
@@karendouglas9027 Yes, I saw both White Nights and Tap in the movies, and I own TAP on DVD. News flash Gregory Hines and Savion can both be great dancers, one being great; don't take anything from the other. "Savion took tap to another level"! You know who said that? Gregory Hines, Sandman! If you saw Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk, you would say the same! I've also met Gregory Hines in a store I used to work in Manhatten in the 1990s and sold him a pair of sneakers for his son.

RIP, Mr. Hines, but he wasn't great. His posture for a dancer was not acceptable, bent over with shoulders hunched up. Seeing the Masters of Tap was great, but this younger generation seems like they would rather show off than keep totally true to the dance.

Such a great find. So fun. I'm teaching myself to tap, on-line, not a bad project during this Pandemic. It is a fun place to be mentally and physically it's helping my legs and ankles work better. I am 67 and can move well. So... I heard my mom was quite a #Hoofer back in the day. I feel her connection when I tap. Currently learned the Shim Sham just gotta practice.. Thanks. I love so much about Gregory Hines. <3
