I am totally mystified as why the genius of Johann Michael Haydn is not more widely recognized. This sublime Requiem should be a part of the classical music standard repertoire.

With all due respect… French Baroque cocktail: Take a large cup. Pour in a glass of pure Jean-François Paillard. Add three glasses of water. Shake or stir to taste. And there you have it: our famous William Christie cocktail! 😉

Notice the final chords spell the composer's name more cogently than the revision? The 2nd and 3rd are easy to pick out..the final chords CLEARLY spell Rach-ma-nyi-noff!

One wonders why THIS version isn't performed more often...it is only a few minutes longer...and and is so gorgeously complex...in all the right ways.

The 3rd movement becomes less "episodic" and more rhapsodic. And joyous.

Thank goodness the section between 07:09 and 07:27 is as is in the revised edition. I get the chills every time this short, but thrilling section goes by.

I had never heard this sinfonia and I am astonished at how beautiful this is...I haven't listened to new Vivaldi work in some years. I'm so glad I revisited this. Very inspiring and as deeply expressive as anything in Bach.

I could never find recordings of his work when I was growing up. Neither Petrassi nor Casella nor Pizzetti. What a pity. I had a little more luck with Dallapiccola. And later with Malipiero.

Dolores Ziegler gives a moving performance in an opera the theme of Orfeo et Eurydice which has some splendid music. but I wish I had heard of this voice years ago. In act II she breaks you heart.
