I wish there was a channel just showing examples Joe Pass chord phrases...forget about trying to learn his transcriptions note for note that would take a year to learn one song of Joe's
@MikeHayesGuitar7 күн бұрын
That's a great idea! Learning chord phrases can really help capture Joe Pass's style without the daunting task of transcribing every note.

Interesting video, Mike. Anything that will help improve "Autumn Leaves" for me is a big help, because I think it is one of the most over-rated and over-played songs in the Great Standards Catalogue. Music students are taught that this is one of the "essential standards" they should learn from the beginning. I agree that music students should learn it in our jazz education for its fundamental harmonic properties. However, I think we give it too much importance. There are hundreds of other great standards that are greater and much nicer to play than "Autumn Leaves", with equally interesting harmonic properties, but are nowhere near as well known. Recently I found that playing "Autumn Leaves" is a rhythmic problem for me, and playing it as a bossa song sounds much better. Bossa gives it life and the minor harmonies fit the bossa sound perfectly too.

Hello David, yes, the decending tetrachord line concepts works well for bass lines, in fact we have a video out tomorrow on that. Cheers. Mike

@@MikeHayesGuitar Thanks Mike, I know there are many short bass lines. Please make few lessons on the most common ones. And I will try to add them to some of chord melodies I’m working on.

do those tetrachord movement are bass line movement?
@MikeHayesGuitar13 күн бұрын
Hello Hendy, If you begin on the root note of the chord and create a decending tetrachord line it makes a very strong and musical bass line. Warm regards, Mike
