The mechanic should have pointed all that out before doing the $1000+ repair and they probably would have had a customer for life.

Heh, great timing on the upload over here since the electric->gas engine mod hypothetical invaded my brain about the same time this was posted. Thank you for the thorough rundown on those bits that look both bloody tedious as well as absolutely critical to be spot-on in equal proportions as it made it abundantly clear that I'd be punching waaaaay above my skillset to attempt such a project any time soon, hahaha. Subscribing to learn all I can in the meantime though, so good luck!

Personally I’d make this a business there is a lot of people looking for smaller hp mud motor with fnr an when you build the tiller arm make it into a z an also make it float so when you hit something you won’t take your arm with it it’ll stay in the same spot an build something where you can adjust the tiller to a certain angle for standing while driving or for trailering where you can flip it all away up especially when your in the duck blind so your not sharing the tiller arm with you

Pretty solid build.. I made my own surface drive last fall basically using the same design, minus the gearbox.. hindsight, I should have added one to mine. Good looking project, can’t wait to see it finished
