Dave Parker used to drive me absolutely nuts, as did the rest of the Pirates. I was an Expos fan and the Pirates (esp. in the early 80s) were always very tough to beat. They had Bill Madlock, Dave Parker, Willie Stargell, Jason Thompson , Tony Peña with his rifle arm for picking off runners… they were tough customers. And then their pitchers, guys like John Candelaria, Don Robinson, Rick Rhoden, and Kent Tekulve in the bullpen… you always thought you were catching them in a lull, and then they’d step it up and be tougher than you thought they would be. And you sure as hell didn’t count Rhoden and Robinson as easy outs when they hit… those guys swung mean bats. Oy, the good old days.

Eric Davis is the most all around best MLB player I’ve ever watched play. If he would have been healthy his entire career he would be the GOAT.

So, we placed 8th in 1989 (I won't SAY there was any Indianapolis Bias going on -- even if there was)! The 1st French horn solo is Scott Lichtenberger (marching) playing a "marching french horn". (Remember Art Adye is a professional and masterful French Horn musician -- is a founding member of the Evansville Brass Quintet , (along with Tim Smith - my trumpet instructor in high school), and has long played in the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra ). My years at Reitz, watching our music department grow and dominate, while simultaneously observing Mr. Arthur Adye grow as a teacher, conductor, composer, instructor, and musician, reminded me a lot of Mr. Holland's Opus -- very fond memories. Then the TUBA LINE was untouchable with John Griffith, Matt Kuebler, and Brian Bushkill. The trumpet soloist (not pictured) I think is Jeff Duncan. Then the trumpets in unison are Mike Lineback (me), Jeff Duncan, Ryan Parker, and Russ Hopple (Dr. Hopple now!). The 2nd tune (Malaguena), 1st duet, is Bill Griswold (usually on trombone -- I have seen him play this on trombone), and Duke Griffith, both playing marching trombones. The Flag Corps soloist is Marie Johnson (with Cape). The trumpet trio is Mike Lineback, Jim Loeffler, and Jeff Duncan. The 3rd song trumpet duet is Mike Lineback and Jim Loeffler. John Griffith was in the the McDonalds All American Marching Band in 1989. Then Matt Kuebler and I were in the McDonalds All American Marching Band in 1990 (It is not a 'fall' marching band, it is in late 'spring'). Only 2 players per state are selected, so it was an honor to be part of it, and both of us were from Reitz!

@@ldspaceace wow! He looks a lot different, though I haven’t seen him in about 30 years. I’ll bet he’d still remember me. I saw Cro Mags at L’Amour in Brooklyn back in ‘89 or ‘90. Harley had a broken arm or wrist. He played with a cast on his arm. Destruction opened. What a great night!!

Dave Parker was a bad dude. Why isn't he in the hall of fame. Along with Keith Hernandez, Jeff Kent, Carlos Delgado, Craig Nettles, Billy Wagner, among others. But Scott Rolen and Harold Baines are in. What a joke ! The writers try so hard to get it right that they ultimately get it wrong.
