We bought a house with drop ceiling throughout (previously used as an office) and had trouble deciding what to do. We’re gonna use this system for the living room and kitchen, but everywhere else is getting vinyl tiles. Ordered the Stratford model from ProCeilingTiles (KY company 🤘🏻) for about $1.50 sq/ft. Used the old fiber tiles to reinforce where our canless lights and vents are and it’s turned out really nice.

So did u calculate a reduction in the capacity needed for your Mr Cool units since ur using a SIPS envelope? We are doing a total sips build w 8 inch walls (R32) here in MT and we like the minisplits idea, but we are told we need less BTUs due to the envelopes thermal efficiency? We are also told Mr Cool units have many customer warranty/service horror stories.

So it appears that its been a year since you did the ceiling install and Im curious if you have had any negative issues since the install. Thinking about doing /trying the same thing with same product in my kitchen. Was wondering why you didnt make the door hatch cover with leftover pieces to match the ceiling?

Mineral wool is hydrophobic and won't absorb water if it gets wet. You don't need to maintain that gap at the bottom of the walls.

Why do you need to add insulation to those walls, don't they come with R-21 pre-installed?

The major advantage of mineral will is that it doesn't really matter if it does get wet. Roxul even makes/made a "drainboard" product to act as a drainage plane and exterior insulation for basements, and their comfort board is often installed under slabs. I honestly think you may have done yourself a disservice by spraying in that foam. If it does flood, and water finds a crack in that foam, it may take forever to dry out. Mineral wool will not hold water, and will probably allow the cavity to dry quickly when you strip your baseboards and damaged drywall.

I appreciate your candor, I too have found a need to hang a somewhat heavy object on my superior foundation walls. I was going to go the snap toggle route but couldn't find any locally and didn't feel like waiting any longer. So I have in my pocket, some Tapcon screws, and that is how I am going to attempt to mount my 42" TV to the wall. Wish me well. I do wish Superior Walls were more forth coming about how they want home owners to work with their products in various real life situations. I've found it difficult to find information about how they prefer you do it, maybe I am not looking in the right areas. Again, thank you for sharing your troubles, you are not alone, the struggle is real.

Just been watching your bedroom building videos. You are doing just fine, don’t sell yourself short. You are like me, your own worst critic. Keeps us doing a good job. I am 65, still do a lot of my own work, but some jobs l have to hire the “pros”, and let me tell you, most of them are awesome but a couple should be ashamed of their work. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

What screws did you use to hang your drywall? I know they recommend adhesive as well, did you have to use self tapping screws to puncture the metal plate?

Put a 2x6 block in between your floor joist and PT mud sill. You can place it to attack your corner and also be backing for your ceiling material. I’ve used superior walls in a handful of builds. Personally, I wouldn’t use them in my house, as a first option.

Im glad to see you dont have any extra line set out at the outdoor unit... A BIG problem with these DIY pre charged line sets are you dont cut the excess so MANY people coil up the excess like a ferris wheel and then the oil can get trapped and cause pre mature compressor failure...

It looks like you used stego as a subslab air barrier. I'm trying to find out how to detail stego with the superior walls for my new build. Any chance you can provide some insight on what you did? Looks like you taped to the metal studs?

Hope there isnt a problem with your mr cool or else your gonna have to find a hvac company that will work on them. Cause most companies wont. After a few years you wont be able to get parts for them either. I have a 1st gen unit and inquired about getting a replacement evaporator coil for it and they told me they had no parts for the 1st gen units. I bought it 4.5 years ago. They actually told me they were surprised it was even still running.

I appreciate all the honesty and can see the real struggle you have had with your HVAC. You mentioned you used Zhender for air flow for the whole house. We are considering it also, since we are doing in floor heating on our concrete slab on grade house and didn't want duct work either. We are concerned it may not work as great as they say and quoted us 10K plus installation on a 2500 sf house. The HVAC companies here in PA say we need an air handler no matter what and want to put in duct work and attach their HRV (heating recovery ventilation) to the unit to move the air around. Their HRV would not be a separate unit like a Zhender. I feel your pain on what to choose as everyone seems to tell you different stories on what will work. It is so confusing! We just are not sure the in floor heat will heat the whole house enough and we don't need back up heat if it gets below zero. If you know what you know now, what would you have installed for your HVAC? Ex: put in duct work, forced air etc.

Thanks for the video. We are considering SW above ground walls. We are concerned when hearing you were able to feel "air" at all 4 corner bolts / joints. What kind of foundation did you use? Did you use SW footer or did you use stone foundation? If you had to build a house again, would you consider using SW for the above grade walls of your house or would you do a stick frame again?

Best Foundation to have buddy, they move with the earth not against it, they are also dryer than any foundation you can find , water passes through the chip stone and your 2b underfloor, always keep in mind stone doesn’t settle nor can you compact it.
