My rope was too slippery, but adding more than 2 wraps around the standing end in the direction of the object kept the finished not from slippping.

This won’t work if using larger diameter rope. I have tried and tried to cinch this down and it slips repeatedly. Prob a good hitch for smaller diameter rope.

When tying lumber on a roof rack I use the truckers hitch with not one but two or three loops back. This gives a tremendous amount of tension with less effort!☺️

Nice video, however you need more and better practical examples for it to make sense to the newbie.

Though it doesn't look as pretty as the others, I really prefer the midshipman's hitch for the reason that you mentioned: It can handle some tension. That also means one can tie it under some existing tension which comes in more handy than one would expect. Usually I like to go with two inside wraps as well for a bit more friction on the line.

A simple Taught line hitch would be much easier and safer just saying lol.

Cossack Bowline and Eskimo bowline are different knots. They relate to each other differently than the Dutch and English versions of bowlines. It is impossible to tie a Kalmyk knot on an Eskimo bowline

Without context this video comes across very differently.

When using slippery line you can use the magnus and it's look-alikes, but give it an extra wrap. I do this anyway with paracord, especially if it's new and slippery.

I use the latter two only because I sometimes mixup the last half-hitch :-)

Great video! First thing I did after watching the viral video was to try it myself. I got confused because the first time I tried it, I untangled it very easily (I rotated the cross just like you did) and then I had difficulty when trying to do it again. Now I understand it was because the two knots I had were fundamentally different. The first knot I tried, I was careful to make it exactly like the video. But later, I started by going underneath the rod with the extension cord, doing one loop and ending up on the other side. My moment of insight came when I realized that if I had to lift the rod/go around the rod to make the knot, I would need to do something equivalent to undo the knot.

The entire part about manually compensating for declination is completely wrong.

This trick is so over used

Though I tried to learn new knots, and tried to remember how to tie this knot a couple of times, square knot and hangman's knot are the only two I can always remember how to tie.

Excellent video. With that in mind, the tag end for all of these knots are on the same side of the standing end in ABOK. What matters is whether the working end follows follows the original lay over the standing end.

The first method seems not right. The rope can slip, creating uneven tension.
