Thanks for the video. You can easily loosen the hitch connector to get the yakima hitch bolt through the left side to lock into place. Definitely a bad design by Mercedes but it does make your hitch kinda secure and theft deterrent.

I think every van needs either a strong murphy configuration or electric lift. When you spend the time and money to build this out, make sure its as versatile as possible, both for resale value, and in case anyone you know becomes homeless or some other catastrophe god forbid. People are living out of these things as a necessity due to the economic depression. Its always good to shoot for middle of the road functionality and versatility even if your particular use would be for out door trips.

My Sprinter has a grab handle on the sliding door post right behind the passenger seat, but it’s too high for my fhort girl to grab when climbing in. How to remove that handle? I’d like to replace it with one that’s 24” or even 30” long, instead of the silly 10” one.

If those handles are original Mercedes Sprinter parts they likely come out easily with Torx bolts. Not sure where longer handles might be sourced….?

Just a thought here…. Do you have valves that direct the water to your tank when primitive camping (no water) vs in a campground with water so your not using your tank and the water pump when showering, washing dishes etc…
@vandingo124 күн бұрын
I believe you are referring to an RV style city water hook up valve that can be switched to dry camping? In my case was thinking to keep complexity low and design system for always dry camping even though I will use rv sites for fresh water fill and electric. Do you know of a simple approach for installing the RV switchable setup? Thx

Have the same but mine are completely pulverized and no longer work as they should and have done. Curious in what condition yours are after two years? I have already replaced them at the front because they were also completely pulverized and were replaced by sumsprings under warranty, it seems that these are already getting worse within a year.

Replaced mine with the same and sometimes it was still not enough for inattentive road users. Then I opted for two Hadleys of 1 meter under the floor which works perfectly and wakes up inattentive road users immediately

The wire going from the battery terminal to the DC to DC charger should be as short as possible, and running two wires through the ceiling is not the basic wiring method and it makes fire if your van ags acciden. it should be kept as short as possible to reduce current loss, and since the battery ground is connected to the chassis, there is no need to connect a separate wire, only the positive wire from the battery is connected to the DC to DC unit. The negative wire of the DC to DC can be connected to the nearby chassis ground. By doing so, the positive wire passes next to the vehicle's door and then through the van floor to connect to the battery positive with a 50 or60A fuse for Alternator protection and van electronic system . it is very super important .good luck !

Just found your channel. Nice build! I would use 10 series. That stuff is strong. If you have any doubts then put a brace in. Way better than over building. I agree with vanDiesel, that 3M VHB is amazing. I put a solar panel on with it. Your shower is huge! You can certainly have a moveable toilet but why bother. Put the toilet in a corner. Not sure why others haven't done that. You then have more shower floor space and eliminate the complexities of a rolling toilet. Can't wait to see the walls.

Thanks Scott The headliner is the final section of my spray foam insulation project for my 2022 Sprinter. You have given me the confidence to tackle this area, as I was concerned about the electronics and air bags. I have already spray foamed the remainder of my van except for the slider door and portions of the back door that have moving parts. My only comment to followers is if they are going to RV in cold frosty climates, the white fuzzy insulation Scott used as well as the Havolin Wool which is also heavily touted on KZfaq will allow moisture to penetrate and condensate on the inside of the metal exterior. My van initially had wool and the same white fibered insulation and after an 8-day October trip to WI. and MN., I had considerable condensation between the insulation and metal panel. I have no shower in my van and I keep my windows cracked and Maxair fan vented to reduce potential build-up and still had condensation. Spray foam has eliminated most condensation except where I could not apply foam. Thanks again. G-Man

I travel full-time across the U.S. in my Sprinter camper van. I have 4 100 watt solar panels screwed into the top of my van's roof. I would be very nervous to adhesive tape solar panels to the top of my van's hood. Over time, the heat and cold extremes, plus the wind will eventually lift the solar panel no matter how strong the adhesive is. Driving down a highway and have that solar panel lift up, could be disastrous! The company should make it an option to be able to screw the solar panel into the hood and forget about the vinal.
@vandingo15 ай бұрын
Thanks, you make a great point and it may be a reasonable fear. When I did my research I didn’t find much about the adhesive failing. The adhesive strength is supposed to similar to how windows are glued to the side of skyscrapers. Ultimately time will tell, I have only 6K on my Sprinter but I park it outside in Texas heat and so far no issues.

Thanks for the video; I'm also a North Dallas van diy. I bought my unit and kind of panicked when received and noticed the flat bottom; see everything on youtube with square insert into van. Your video helped relieve my fears, and actually, I think it's an advantage since it fits closer to the inside ceiling. I have one concern and that is a lot of units have two steel bars that bolt to ribs on roof. Do you have any concerns with mounting just to sheet metal on the roof?
@vandingo15 ай бұрын
Yes, I have also seen the supports used in other installs. in my case where it’s installed is pretty tight between the two roofs supports and maybe this is why I have experienced no roof flexing, at least that I am aware of.
