I've always thought the Spitting Image puppets were hideous. Look how the guys in the band look--what have they done to deserve this?

I just moved into my first house, set up my stereo and proceeded to to build my album colection. REO,s You can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish was the first of many. I still have that album, it has some snap, crackle and pop on it but its still one of my favorite albums.

Loved the video for Land Of Confusion. This video reminded me of just how many Phil Collins and/or Genesis songs I like. I need to pick up some more of the albums. The song Against All Odds was pretty much the best parts of the movie of the same name.

What a day! Genesis story now while in the morning I was playing 'Land of Confusion' to my students during the social studies lesson in Poland. We were pracitising English and discussing this amazing video. I also showed my students cover video by Disturbed - very meaningful. It seems that we live in neverending 'Land of Confusion'. Greetings from Poland!

Genesis is definitely one of my favorite 80’s bands, as well as they’re independent projects. Mike & the Mechanics were, IMO, extremely underrated. “The Living Years” especially touched me deeply. Before I even knew it was an homage to his father and their relationship it spoke to me about my father and how we grew to better understand each other and grow closer. Thanks for this one, I’m gonna have to dig some of the music up and listen again.

Great song from an amazing band...but as always, musicians are too stupid to get involved in politics...or "protest" music....all it does is push other stupid sheep into voting with zero actual understanding of how the real world works.

I have always loved the song I Will Still Love You by Stonebolt. I remember the first time I heard it on the radio. I was a freshman in high school and spending the night at a friend's house. We were up late, listening to the radio, and this song came on. I looked out the window and saw a shooting star. Whenever I think about the song, I remember the shooting star. Whenever an image or video of a shooting star comes up, I think of that night and that song.

As a young teen growing up in northern Minnesota in the early 80’s, a buddy played the Double Vision cassette and I was hooked. After that I bought Dirty White Boy and still can hear my mom yelling at me to turn it down!!! A Great time to be young.

When i heard Jesse's Girl for the first time (performed live on American Bandstand) i didn't hear the intro, came in the room& was surprised to see Dr. Noah Drake singing... My thought was that maybe he was a singer working GH as a temporary job until he made it big in the music industry. Never thought it was gimmicky nor pushed by the soap.

My very first concert was summer of 67' when The Monkees played Charlotte NC and I was a wee lad of 10 years old. But what else that happened to be equally historic that night was the opening act in a guitarist by the name of Jimi. Ah to be able to relive that moment again now knowing who he is and what I was watching in a moment I had no clue. And I'm sure The Monkees were great but they were no match sound wise to 1000's of screaming girls. Not even sure Zeppelin, Deep Purple or The Who had a sound system to overpower that. LMAO!!!!!!!

I never reconciled the status of “Rock Star” with a short, balding drummer who looked more like an accountant than musician. But Phil Collins did it, then broke the mold. Thank you, Prof, the 80’s will definitely be “in the air tonight.”

I love the Hell out of both the song and the video. Fucking iconic, both. Lyrics haven't aged, the marching feel of the song, those freaky as Hell puppets from Spitting Image guys that combine funny with absolutely TERRIFYING. I was born in the arse end of 86 but remember seeing it probably way too young, toddler age easily, and even though I was scared of the puppets I still found them fascinating. It's one of those things where I remember crying at it at points but when my mum tried changing the channel I'd beg her to leave it lol. Still got nightmares of that one shot of puppet Reagan rising from his sweat filled bed in the darkness like a soaked Frankenstein, hah hah hah! The puppets were made by the company behind Spitting Image, a British political satire show from the 80s and got a revival fairly recently (like 2020/21. I think it may still be going, not 100%) But they made many iconic puppet caricatures of past and current political figures (both in the 80s at the time and today) the designs of which always on the more grotesque/ ridiculous side. The more recent reboot has involved puppets of Trump, Biden, Queen Elizabeth the Second and the Royal family, Putin and many others. Back in the day Spitting Image also produced novelty songs, one called 'I Haven't Met a Nice South African' and 'The Chicken Song' (which was a mockery of annoying 80s novelty songs and seems to be mostly inspired by 'Agadoo' by Black Lace)

Genesis..... Peter Gabriel lead and Phil Collins lead... is probably one of 5 bands I really hate I never got to see in concert. I will say I like Phil Collins lead Genesis better than the Peter Gabriel era, if I have to pick. I love their song 'Just a Job To Do' so much. It never gets enough credit. You talking about how this song is more relevanttoday is probably why Disturbed covered it.

Disturbed did a faithful cover of Land of Confusion with David Draiman's vocals adding a sense of raw urgency and anger. Todd McFarlane did an outstanding job with the animated video of Disturbed's version. Both bands in my opinion did an outstanding job.

I think it was Mike Rutherford who said in an interview that by the time the 80s came along, the Genesis members were in their thirties, had children, and just didn't have the time or drive to lock themselves away and come up with the most complex , ambitious musical piece; they just felt like doing simpler stuff. I think the albums Duke , Abacab and Genesis had great tunes and great examples of prog-pop ( Turn It On Again, Abacab, Mama, Home By The Sea, etc). After that, songs like Invisible Touch or Land Of Confusion for my money had too many of the worst features of eighties pop, particularly those annoying 80s popping and crackling drum machine loops which were too loud in the mix anyway. .But I do think Phil.Collins should be remembered as a true great: a multi-instrumentalist and singeer who could write and perform the full range of musical styles from prog rock to pop to soul to Disney sondtracks...he's a genius! And the other members of Genesis in all the phases of the band's career are obviously all-time greats too...
