Are those urea tanks, if so there is a dark gray thread sealer made specifically for it. I haul urea in tankers and if it isn’t welded that’s what we use.
@CatesFarming
@CatesFarming 3 күн бұрын
Yes, we store liquid 28% in them. That’s good to know now! But, we are switching all our threaded to welded joints so we don’t have to mess with it!

@@CatesFarming I deliver to a lot of farms, so I figured with all the stainless that’s what it was. Same applies to anything that uses Def (32.5%) such as nozzles and pump fittings.
@panders55
@panders55 3 күн бұрын
4 to 5 wraps of a good teflon tape the a good thread sealer on the couple and the fitting going into the tank, same with all your fittings, flanges too. This is the only way in the 40 plus years I worked in the ag industry to get them to seal .

Valves will reseal no worries they are likely or at least should be viton seals. They are self gasketing

We were worried about turning the short piece of pipe under the valves and breaking that seal. Should be fine though!

Stainless is always a pain to work on. Draws like crazy when you weld it, hard to drill/tap, threads pile up, brittle, and all round just a pain.

Soo true! I don’t like working with it, but you can’t beat its strength and resilience to fertilizers.

I was just about to say, we've had the same issue with deer and usually like you said the beans will bounce back and surprise you. Soybeans are a very interesting plant. Geese eating young corn in a field is a whole different issue, they pull the whole plant out of the ground and it's done then. Dad use to keep a box of bottle rockets in his pickup for them lol
@CatesFarming
@CatesFarming 8 күн бұрын
Can’t say we have ever had that issue with corn! I could see how that could be devastating to a field if a flock moves in. Love the idea of keeping bottle rockets in the truck 😂

How tall is the corn at this point? How far is the boom off of the ground? Do you use a spreader sticker in with your chemical?
@CatesFarming
@CatesFarming 10 күн бұрын
I would say most is around the 8” mark or so. Boom height goal is about 28-30 inches.

Sometimes we use a crop oil that helps penetrate through the weed’s waxy layer, but I didn’t use any sticker or anything over the corn.

If only the first generation of your family could see what your doing now. They started it and you are embracing what they struggled to start and achieve. We benefit from everything they started.
