I have been sewing for many years and learned something new. I didn’t know that pinning perpendicular to the edge helps keep the pieces together better! It makes sense tho!

I recently watched a documentary with Diane VF where she talks about her life. It’s called- DIANE VON FURSTENBERG: Woman In Charge. It’s on both Disney plus and Hulu right now. It’s an excellent show. I had no idea that she had been married to a prince. Or that her mother had survived a Nazi concentration camp. Her amazing life is most certainly an inspiration to anyone who knows in their heart that they just can’t be like everyone else! She is an icon.

I saw the same doc, and she has a remarkable story!

My first machine was a Singer, my mom’s was a Singer, and my grandma’s was a Singer. I’ve been keeping an eye out for a Kenmore in the thrift stores. Those things LAST! I just got a Rowenta (and I was CERTAIN I got one made in Germany) and I love it! Still trying to win an Oliso!😂

That is awesome! I find that a lot of times brand recognition/awareness is the driving force for machine choice as well!

Yes to old Kenmores! As a hobbyist, sewing machine repair person, Kenmores are the way to go! They were manufactured by Janome. They have all metal parts, and strong, 1 amp motors that will make any modern, $500.00, ‘heavy duty’ machine choke. Best of all, youtube is filled with easy to follow videos to clean and oil these old beauties. Check grandma’s basement, yard sales and thrift stores. Even if you decide to take it in to be serviced, for approximately $100.00 total, you will still have an amazing deal!

Love sewing machine trivia! Didn’t know Janome manufactured them. This makes a lot of sense lol.

I have a 1960s kenmore sewing table and I love it more than my brand new janome! The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is in fact a whole table and therefore not portable. 😅

Omg I just kept having an issue with coats and Clark as well. By the time I got to my aha moment I was sooooo frustrated. And the crazy thing is I have been seeing and quilting for years. This is such an awesome video and I wish I had learned some of this info sooner along my journey. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I started sewing when I was a child. Back then my mother sewed for the public. She taught all of her daughters , how to sew. She made some of our clothes. I have enjoyed sewing all of my life. I am almost sixty five and I really enjoying seeing young people like you who like sewing. You are much more knowledgeable about different things than I am. It is such a blessing to know this skill is still something that young people want to learn.

True about Kenmore sewing machines. I received one as a graduation gift in 1974. Two of my sisters used for years and then returned to me. I put in storage for years. I finally took it out of storage 2 years ago for my 11 year old granddaughter. It still sews like a gem.😊

My first sewing machine was a Kenmore. My mom purchased it for me in 1975 when I was in the 9th grade. In 2002, I placed it in a storage unit and stopped oiling it. By the time I got it out of storage in 2019, it was ruined. Now, I have a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 and make sure I keep it oiled.

machine maintenance is definitely key. Sounds like you've had two great machines. I've heard great things about the Singer Quantum as well.

Whenever I’ve taught someone to sew, we take lots of trips to the store to feel fabric. Feel first and then look at the fiber content on the edge of the bolt. Once you’ve done it a lot you’ll notice yourself figuring it out before you look.
