The head band depends on how big your head is around, I cut mine on the fold at 12". The length all depends on how full you want it but I cut mine about 15". I have a lot of hair and use these as a hairnet with my day job.

I used that same base pattern for a custom doll of mine! I did rework it so it would work for my purposes, but it is legitimately great to see that other people rework patterns! Your daughter was so lucky to have a mom who could sew this!

The shirt was an altered See & Sew D4656, for the vest it was an altered pattern from simplicity 8075, and the skirt was butterick 4653.

I am going to attempt make this.. however I don't sew... so I'm going to use a hot glue gun. May have to tweak a little but hopefully it works out. I made a mario star topper out of felt and it came out good.. so fingers crossed. Thanks for posting this. Will use when I am making it. 😊
