I just got to mid, T8 is my first Tekken I got serious in and have played in ranked, so this helps! I've played casually since the mid 90s haha EDIT: I'm a Shinryu lol

My problem with the red ranks is the following. My tekken Prowess is between 110-115 000 BUT I constantly get matches against 150 000, 180 000 and even 240-250 000 people. How crazy is that? And even when I win against a player who has much higher prowess, I don't get a large xp increase at all...

A pro tip is if worrying about your rank is making the game even less enjoyable. Go to quick match so your points aren't affected, grind there instead and when you know you have improved go back to ranked and you'll reach the next rank plateau.

"ELO Hell"? Hahah that's dorky. ELO hell is where you play a team-based game and supposedly you're in low ELO because your teammates are, and they hold you back. But: there are 4 slots on your team for bad players and five on the other team. Averaged, if you really ARE better, you will move up. The term doesn't seem to apply to Tekken in that sense. :)

I’m like a low-mid level player so take this with a huge grain of salt but I think “don’t care about frame data” is a disservice to learners. I would say a better way to actually progress is to learn the fundamentals of characters’ frame data (what’s plus? what’s launch punishable? Etc) and THEN realize how irrelevant it is and throw it out the window. Like English professors say: *know the rules to break the rules.* The simple reality of mental stack means that knowing frame data will never mean as much in practice as it does in theory, but I still think it’s a mistake to deemphasize it to the extent suggested in this video - even taking into account it being self aware about being hyperbolic. Same with combos, honestly. Everyone says “don’t focus on combos in Tekken, combos are overrated” and that’s true BUT I think someone who labs a ton of combos and then goes “this isn’t really helping me, let me focus on more important stuff” is still going to be in a better place than someone who just totally disregarded combos from the beginning and therefore can barely get 50 damage out of a big read on a counter hit. Even if your combos are nowhere near optimal, that extra 20-30 damage that you get from really seizing an opportunity can make a HUGE difference. I would absolutely argue it’s better to disregard learning combos after you’ve already learned some good stuff you’re able to execute than to disregard it from the beginning.

I think knowing the frames IS important. I think the problem is that most people domt know how tonuse them properly. Knowing frames does not mean you're a predictable player. I'm a Yoshi main as well and I normally use my frames to be unpredictable. Quick and easy example: Yoshimitsu's flash is 6 frames fast. That means that leaves yoshi at -4 and above will get flashed. Worst case scenario, it will trade with the opponent's jab but it's still in my favor. So... Azucena uses her annoying 'While Running' move. I block it, leaving me in minus frames. She got hit by flash before so my opponent is actually smart enough to actually bait it out. They always stand still though. So it's my turn. If I'm sure that they will hold still, I would just use Poison Breath to launch them. xD

Start frames are actually important once you know the moves that are plus or punishable you get better especially your own start up frames, mid level is to know what’s punishable or not movement is for higher rank, you can wave dash and kbd all you want and still lose by being punished, being unpredictable is only when you find out they don’t know the character, your play style makes you unpredictable

Very good video, bro. I agree with most of what you said here. I def have had a problem of relying on frames too much. So much so that I wouldn't even attack if I was negative. I have now just been experimenting with different stuff in matches. Limit pushing and seeing what I can get away with. Or seeing if a certain thing works in a situation. It has made me not climb as much, but I believe it is helping me in the long run.

What's the difference between forgetting about frames and just be mindful about rps surrounding any particular situation? Like with Lili example, obviously her next move after df3 only works against opponent's pressing, but loses to sidestepping or even some fast armor moves. Don't you just pay attention to how an opponent responds and then change your answer? My issue with this is that there are too many situations like this in match to focus on each one of them and then perfectly change your answers. Are we even talking about the same thing?
@nobacktalk
@nobacktalk Ай бұрын
Yes youre exactly right. There are a ton of situations like this but you need to choose a few of them to focus on and punish. You won’t have time to download everything, but one or two good reads is enough to win a FT3 format.

Your chara has something cheap Spam it. Thats how everyone play right now And when you wanna tell me that doesnt work. I have Reina,lee,lars,raven on bushin without big effort. So rather i am a hidden tekken talent (what i am not) or the game just supports unga bunga playstyle heavily. Sure you'll lose against some talented players but you mostly just steamroll when mashing

@d.e5964 Ай бұрын
I disagree with frame traps. I Hit fujin yesterday with asuka and I'm understanding frame data now, knowing what moves I can use to continue my block strings gets you very far bc you can mix up the opponent more, but the difference is you're mashing frame traps, if you use them less your opponent doesn't know your attack pattern so you've rectified the predictability. Jabs hit quicker that most frame traps so even the mashers themselves can't just escape with jabs

I don’t wanna be called an asshole or anything but is it really that hard to rank up for some people? I feel like the real struggle doesn’t start until Tenryu. That’s when you start to actually run into people who understand their character. That’s all it is. Most people don’t even know the matchup, they just know how to punish and they know SOME tech/combos. Once you understand your character, the next stage is understanding the matchup. For example, Eddy used to eat my Bryan alive til I realized you can jab him/duck out of most those bullshit strings.

I don't know if I am the only one who goes trough this, but sometimes I feel like I screw myself up by overestimating my opponents. I always assume people on the other side are players who think and try to adapt to their opponent, only to die by the same pattern they did the whole match, some do adapt and crouch and SS and whatnot, most don't however. I can't count how many times I played against Law, Dragunov, King, Jun, Jin and many more who do the same stuff over and over again, and worked because I thought they would change their strategy/approach once I SS, blocked or punished. I don't know man, I hate calling my opponents bad and stuff but feels like it has been biting me in the ass when trying to improve. Maybe that's where the frames and predictable stuff comes into play, eating almonds and apples while playing has helped me a bit to focus harder on my opponent lmao. While I hate being a garyuer, last year I couldn't even get to teal ranks in 7 so despite all that I feel like I have grown a lot as a player and sometimes feel like I can take on anyone, these kind of games are a marathon not a damn race for sure.
