I was on the train that day but I unfortunately came down with the flu... Coughing a lot on the way to Frostburg and started feeling weak on the way back to Cumberland. But the ride nonetheless was amazing and perfect since the foliage was right at peak.

Fast forward three years, and NS is paying dearly (literally) for their previous idiot president selling off perfectly good locomotives to make the bottom line look good for the shareholders and line his own pockets in the process. Now they're horribly short on motive power and having to lease worn out used locomotives at expensive rates to compensate.

I used to visit the Pocahontas Dist. once a year in the fall. Between Obama’s War on Coal decimating traffic, and the loss of the old N&W CPL signals, I’ve given up going anymore. Makes me sad to see all the ghost towns and lack of trains now.

Just gives you some perspective of the tonnage of products and goods that needs to be moved across and around this great country called the USA. Any one know what TORC #996 is at 8:33? Great vid.

Used to live behind NVR building products in Thurmont. After picking up loaded center beams, they would hit notch 8 the whole way up the mountain. You could hear them up to the horseshoe curve is Sabillasville. Even remember them before the G&W take over.

Enjoying the " auto 3:21 train 🚆 videos", as a former locomotive engineer i remember a time not too long ago when freight trains were only 60 to 80 cars long, a 100 car train in Michigan, my state, was considered crazy long back in the 1980's, at least on the Grand Trunk and Canadian National here in Michigan, it's a lot different now. Just kind of funny seeing a 50 car passenger/ auto train.

Nearly the same thing happened in Cumberland during the Chessie era. Tons of C&O/B&O/WM GP7s, GP9s, GP30s, GP35s were stored at the west end of town before that yard was removed.
