They could’ve not put a translation at all. It’s probably some average Japanese worker who made this. He’s not going to look for a native speaker translator just for a sign.

@@MrNicePotato nope, here in Japan without the authorization of a superior, regular workers don't do anything extra. And to save money or time, they just use Google translate and don't bother to verify if it's correct or not. You can find many signs like this.

“Never come back” = 二度と来るな！😅 I originally learned 遭難 in the context of getting “stranded” on an island, but I agree “lost” works better for mountains. I’d probably translate この先 as “beyond this point.”
