Most fantasy books will never be considered classics outside of their genre. This book will probably escape.

Never understood how something could be someones favorite series, yet they don't like half the books. I would classify that as a series fail. Even if half of the books are the best fantasy ever. Great books in it, perhaps, but as a series, nope. I really wish he had condensed it to a 4 or 5 book series with more focus and following a core group of characters specifically. Then I am certain it would be the best series ever. Just my take. But I really enjoyed your take on them all. I am starting Bonehunters next. Looking forward to it.
@PonderingsOfPete16 күн бұрын
I mean, that's a stylistic choice, what you're saying. It would've made the series completely different, nowhere near as expansive. there's so much we wouldn't be able to experience if he had gone the typical fantasy route. If you do that, then you take a lot of what makes Malazan what it is. Not sure it would be on the same level then. Maybe I'll have a different opinion after reading The God is Not Willing, which I've heard is tighter writing

I was intrigued by the title alone; then, a book haul I was watching mere moments ago captivated me with his synopsis of it. But you mentioning that the lead protagonist is Autistic has caused my interests in this book burn even stronger. Not a lot of books, shows, movies or other depict "special needs people" in positive ways in today's society

What an excellent conversation. It is wonderful to hear Tchaikovsky discuss his entire oeuvre and there are so many gems - his ideas, his worldbuilding approach and his humility. Loved the little hints about upcoming works. Kudos to you as an interviewer for keeping the conversation flowing so well, transitioning between topics organically and just letting Tchaikovsky shine. lol actually my name is Harold. Of course. Children of time is radically different from this. This man has so many different flavors of work he needs to open his own ice cream book shop. I have yet to read Dog of War yet so I can’t say what it’s super similar to in terms of his body of work, but anything is more character focused than Children of Time, so if it’s that, then this series and something like Guns of the Dawn might appeal to you
