If you live in a colder zone like 7, I keep my agapanthus in pots and store them in the garage in the winter. If you have a window in the garage that would help keep the leaves green. Now my agapanthus are all budded up!

It always makes me laugh when American's talk about agapanthus - here in New Zealand they grow like weeds. I spend half my gardening life trying to get rid of them. Also, my husband is allergic. I can see their beauty but they just take over.

You got me thinking about this. I'm so curious if we have the same variety. I made a video about how lantanas can be invasive in certain areas because of the optimal weather for them (in my area, one specific lantana variety is invasive for example, but not all lantanas are invasive here). Some plants do need a reset, otherwise they take over like a monster. This sometimes happens when plants are taken out of their natural habitat or hybridized which is very common in the plant world. You got the scientist in me feeling excited to research more about this because people ask me about invasive plants all the time.

Oh wow. Before I say anything else, let me say that they are absolutely gorgeous with the blue and the gold. Beautiful beautiful job and I'm sorry you had to go through so much work to get there but oh my gosh they're beautiful. But yes, you have deterred me. I saw people on Instagram doing bathtub hardware and sink hardware, you know, faucets, etc. And I thought oh that's a great way to get rid of the chrome fixtures in my old bathroom without having to buy new ones and pay a plumber. I know I can't change the fixtures on a tub. So I ran out this morning and bought a tube of antique gold rub buff and came home to try to watch some people use it. I wish I had done that and the reverse order lol. If it's coming off your drawer pulls with normal use, it sure isn't gonna work for what I wanted to do with it. But I'm so so grateful that I came up on your video and I have subscribed because you really explained things so very very clearly. I'm all for honesty so thank you for yours.

Do lantana affect large trees or just small plants?
@BlissHomeGarden
@BlissHomeGarden 15 күн бұрын
It takes over so it kills mostly smaller plants as it takes all water and sunlight and nutrients. The roots of larger trees are probably going to be okay as they are stronger.

In Oklahoma the one variety used for privacy is the “Nelly Steven’s holly Then in Michigan, there is the Michigan Holly but since there is an overgrow deer population many privacy trees get nibbled badly. What do you recommend for privacy deer resistant? Deer will eat everything if they don’t find food, except Daffodils
@BlissHomeGarden
@BlissHomeGarden 16 күн бұрын
That’s a great question. I grew up in Indiana and I know that deer was always a consideration in the garden. I wonder if false cypress or viburnum would be good plants to research for a privacy hedge. I have sweet viburnum on another side of the house and I heard the deer will eat the flowers but they won’t bother the plant. I don’t have a deer problem so I couldn’t tell you with complete confidence, but it’s worth looking into those two as options. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdykiK-DudvMYn0.htmlsi=lx_Ixh7AT0-wtrJf

Hello Cynthia I have a question for you: Do you know how to get rid of invasive yucca? Removing all the root system?
@BlissHomeGarden
@BlissHomeGarden 16 күн бұрын
Whoa! I don’t have ornamental yucca bc it has sharp leaves that can hurt and is invasive for sure. However, from my understanding, you’ll have to dig around it to make sure that you do remove the whole root or it will reappear. If you just cut it, it will come back. I wish you perseverance friend. Also, when I googled to learn more, I found an extension office in Ohio recommend this: The recommended herbicide for Yucca plant removal is “Remedy Ultra Triclopyr Herbicide“. Mix 19 ounces (540 g) of herbicide and 128 ounces (3,600 g) of diesel or vegetable oil in your sprayer. Here’s the link to that. ask2.extension.org/kb/faq.php?id=809126#:~:text=The%20recommended%20herbicide%20for%20Yucca,vegetable%20oil%20in%20your%20sprayer.

Does 30 second cleaner get diluted like the bleach? Or just straight.. sounds expensive on a big fence if straight. Thanks! Edit, does this remove the old stain too? Or just the gray on the fence.
@BlissHomeGarden
@BlissHomeGarden Ай бұрын
You use 30 second cleaner straight so if you have a big fence yes, it will add up. The cheaper option is the pool shock but someone here said it can still be expensive. Still cheaper because you can dilute that one. Another commenter said that all of them have bleach and additives. Someone else said that old mold is hard to remove with both of these options so if you have a lot of mold maybe test first before buying a whole lot of product and being disappointed or having to return a whole lot of stuff. I always suggest testing on inconspicuous areas. Hope that helps.

Would love have to heard WHICH varieties are NON invasive & DON'T spread. ???
@BlissHomeGarden
@BlissHomeGarden Ай бұрын
The FLEPPC (Florida invasive species council) recognizes the cultivars ‘Gold Mound’, ‘New Gold’, ‘Alba’ and ‘Patriot’ series as cultivars that are not known to produce viable seeds. Other promoted sterile cultivars include 'Miss Huff', 'Mozelle', 'New Gold', and 'Samantha' ('Lemon Swirl'). There are many non-invasive cultivars but the lantana cámara is the one that we should be careful with. That’s definitely invasive in many areas. Remember also that your location matters. In Florida and Georgia for example, it’s invasive bc it has too perfect weather and it doesn’t die down, it just gets stronger. Some colder zones don’t have the problem that warmer zones do. Hopefully this helps.
