Good Tips! Great reminder that we have a really expensive hobby! I have a list of things on mu phone that I call Wants as I get each item I delete it - from time to time I add items and them again I ask myself "Do I acutally need it"? This helps - I hava a hoard of paper that I am working through I lofe paper!

Great tips. Now that I have retired I am trying to work on all the kits I bought while I was working and my hobby was more buying than creating. The best tip, I think, was not to search for new stuff, when what you have works fine. I made that mistake with glue. Purchased several brands that were recommended by you tubers and still prefer nuvo.

I look at my craft supplies like groceries. Produce goes bad quickly, and there are some items like new paper patterns that will be out of style quickly, so things like that I try to buy less of even if it's on sale. Other items like card bases and envelops are like pantry staples that I make sure I have enough until the next time they are on sale. Good to remember that even paper has a shelf life.

I make it a goal to use the bits and pieces left over on my desk to create cards. Cleans things up and challenges my creativity. And definitely cut the insides out of those matts!

You are so right! Im guilty of that more often than I should! Even though I purchase items from thrift stores or from fb marketplace, I realize I have more supplies than I really need and need to concentrate on using what I have!

Great advice, Jess! And thank you so much for your no-scraps templates, they inspire me to use up the patterned papers that I have collected over the years. Funny story: in 2010 I said to my hubby 'I'm going to make our Christmas cards this year. It's bound to be cheaper.' Yes, I can hear you all laughing! I love this hobby, creating is so therapeutic.

Buying in bulk often saves money. Split a box of 1000 envelopes or a 250 sheet pack of your most used cardstock with one or two other fellow crafters. I definitely like your suggestion to steer clear of the shopping sites and to avoid those crafter sites that aren't demonstrating a skill or technique but are selling products.

Great tips :) Thanks! I unsubscribe from emails and try not to watch crafters who make me feel like I need to go shopping. I mostly watch videos while I am creating so I’m more focused on what I’m doing and less on what they’re doing. One thing that doesn’t feel frugal but actually might be for me is to buy consumables not durables - patterned paper and premade die cuts work out better cost per card for me because they’re things I will use up completely and enjoy. Even though stamps are durable and can be reused, I don’t love stamping and coloring, so I buy them more than I actually use them. (I’m also running out of space for storage!) Buying paper and ephemera keeps my stash fresh and fun. I choose Doodlebug a lot because I love them, they’re easy to create with for me, and they coordinate across collections so I can really use them all up. Knowing your own style is key.

Before buying a stamp/ Stamp and die set, I will check my stash to see if I have something similar. If I do, I won't buy it. If I don't, and I can think on it, I will think on it. If it's a flash sale, and the set is on my wishlist, then I will buy it right away.

Great tips. I also have unsubscribed for periods of time from many of the online stores and manufacturers so I am not tempted by sales or promotions.

I thanks for your great ideas! Definitely will use a few. I found a lazy Susan Works great under my die cutting/embossing machine I can turn it anyway I need and then push back to store. Hope that helps too.

A couple of libraries in my area have started doing craft swaps. Donate some of your no longer wanted craft supplies and get a chance to take home new to you things!

Instead of buying full paper packs, I often just buy a few open-stock sheets. Too often, I've bought paper packs because I love 2 or three of the patterns and end up with lots of unused paper that I'm not thrilled about. Now I buy just the patterns I want which saves a ton of money and I don't have the struggle of trying to use up the left-over sheets.

It is nice to purchase this way-when I purchase a whole stack, I get bogged down by the patterns I don't like and feel it zapping my creativity!

Good tips. My most $$ saving move: I unsubscribed to any creators that do nothing but sell new products in every vid. After 30 years, I own enough product. And by the time I got those products I bought, I was onto other cards/techniques/supplies and rarely circled back to make that card. Now I watch vids on techniques, cards using basic stamps and dies, fun fold cards, etc. It is so important to have your supplies organized. Before I buy anything, I go check my stash first. Do I already own it? Looking through that category, do I really need another stamps/dies in that category, or can I make do with what I have? If your stuff is all over the place or has no logic to it, you will be frustrated trying to find anything - so you either waste time looking, or you buy something twice.

It's a pity that a lot of the creators who make OSW work in imperial measurements and with letter size cardstock. Most of the world uses A4 cardstock and work with the metric system. The conversion isn't that easy for me so I mostly let the OSW pass by. And it is more difficult to be frugal when you are outside the US or the UK because we don't have big craft companies with amazing sales or coupons. And there are no thrift stores specialized in craft supplies here. So sorry, I have no tips.
@janasher49402 күн бұрын
I am in the US and refuse to pay $17 for a stamp set. Now I see they are cutting the stamp sets in half and selling them for $12. Crazy. I watch videos that focus on using basic stamps and dies, stencils, embossing folders, DIY spritzers or paints in unique ways. I look for DIY recipe videos to create my own products.

I love, love my Dyno label maker! It makes finding stamps and dies so easy. I also have labeled a number of other things in the house to help my elderly husband and to organize our library. I also use the mini rollers on all my larger boxes. They work so well, and I bought them for pennies from Temu.

Great ideas! Another great option, similar to the die cut one, is to use paper punches, or turn the paper into strips or other shapes to then create a different design. And donating unwanted paper to thrift stores or other organizations is never a bad idea - or have a craft supply trading party with friends - “one crafter’s trash, is another crafter’s treasured find”!

Thank you, Jess so helpful. Just in time for Prime Day too :) Question: have you found a folder or something like that to hold 12x12 cardstock?
@JessCrafts2 күн бұрын
I don't have a great solution for 12x12. I have a small amount of it so it all fits inside of one of my Ikea Alex drawers. I keep some of them in the original packaging (cut off the top so they slide out) and others I have used really large zip top bags. Like 13x15 inches maybe. I think they are 2.5 gallon size.
