Indeed! Music is one of the finest worth living for beauties from the infinite treasures of life, or as Beethoven would have it, "a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy."

Every listening is like being a witness to experience colorful constellations of players fully immersed in the Universe of Music with one Conductor who has, through rehearsals, rendered them all so near to uncanny perfection that all of this seems utterly artless, reaching the pinnacle of art that hides all art, quite possibly the nearest one can be to the artlessness of nature.

Though I got in touch with this many years ago, God knows listening to this work has been revelatory thanks solely to the scintillating display by all the worth players and without doubt the level of deep involvement of the conductor.
Прекрасная интерпретация,сильная,жизнеутверждающая, революционная,мне нравится, Вагнер другой любящий!!!

I am the... Shortly speaking, of the same heart and soul.. I listen to Mousorsky very much.. And love his melodies. I played in an Orchestra 40 years and Ive played Boris Godanov and Khovanchina many times. When the prayer of the Zar at the end of Boris comes, I could hardly play: So choked up from the beauty and depth and meaning behind it all. Years later, I had the same experience at the Christians burning scene at the end of Khovanchina..It Tore me apart.. I loved Mousorsky already with 17 hearing Pictures at an Exhibition.. Someone tried to convince me that Mozart is much richer and better composer.. But today I realize I saw back then Mousorsky's greater - ness.... . All the best for you..

I watched Tannhauser for the first time a month or two ago and since then I can't stop thinking of this overture! (And the ridiculous and wonderful Bugs Bunny version of course). I don't know much of anything about classical music, but this overture (and so much of Wagner) sounds like it was written yesterday, not in 1840! Other operas, to me, sort of sound like they came from their era. But Wagner I can never place -- it sounds so obvious and mysterious and old and new, all at the same time. And this overture in particular, I think, feels so fresh because it reminds me of newer of music. I can't help but hear parts that sound like Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, parts that sound like a crazy rainy night in a 1940s/1950s Film Noir, and parts that sound like John Williams' Jurassic Park. And maybe even some parts that remind me of Badalementi's music for Twin Peaks. Someone needs to explain to me how this all works! Til then, I'll just keep listening to this overture on repeat!

Dear Andrew! You're absolutely right -- it's amazing how composers influence each other. I gues it's not only about music it's about everithing: art, technologies etc. Don't stop going deeper into classical music. all the best

I would expect this type of a performance from Arturo Toscanini back before my time; in addition, I prefer this version of the Overture to the 1861 Paris Edition with the Venusburg Music. Does anyone know any versions of the original version of the Opera?

I've heard all the great conductors and orchestras do this. Many have had a "bigger" sound, but none managed the kind of "separation" this performance achieves; you can hear all the lines in their clarion beauty. Bravi!
