BMCs Rev War troops aren't terrible, but aren't great either. Some decent poses, some goofy poses. The best are the artillerymen. They can be painted to be any nationality. Hessian troops are a bit sketchy, but not many manufacturers make Hessians, so they are useful to fill out the ranks.

I've always liked the MARX landing craft, even as a kid. I own 6-8 originals, in various shades of green. Always wished they were true 54mm rather than the aprx 40mm scale they are cast in. BMC makes true scale landing craft (Higgins Boat) as well as nice Amtrak landing craft.

I enjoyed your review, I have both the Napoleonic British Infantry and the French Imperial Guard Infantry by Mars. The detailing on both sets is excellent. As are these WW2 Commonwealth troops. They look like they could fit in with the Airfix WW2 British Infantry 1/32 especially for a D Day scenario? Also their (Airfix) British Para's and Commandos. Heads could be swapped on that PIAT No2 crewman by giving him a beret, taking off his helmet head. And putting him with Airfix Para's. And then their is the Matchbox 1/32 WW2 figures that could blend in with these. Although they are difficult to find these days, being rare and out of production. So there are many different combinations regarding swapping heads and conversions on these Mars WW2 figures.

Ive not had an issue with any of the 40th or timeless joes EXCEPT the African American figures, everyone one of them have broken joints. Besides that, i did habe a bunch of issues with my brand new opened by me Action man 40th figures. Half of them had really loose pegs (like the part holding the hands and feet in) amd they'd just fall out. So i had to put some super glue in the joints and tinker with it to where the glue just held them in tightly but i could still move them.

Those crusader knights are great. I had a few back in the day 1970s. Very nicely made toys by Timpo. The mounted knights we're great. Never had the Arab figures. I did have a small collection also of Roman soldiers and horse mounted Roman. That's a great collection you have there.. Unfortunately that was a long time ago and they're just memories now. I've seen the crusaders recently but very costly. Just one figure no horse AU$40.00+ for two AU $80.00+ a mounted Crusader AU 200.00+ . Your fortune to have that collection. I'm very jealous. I was curious, the brown horses had the land/grass to help them stand and I thought the Indians made sense for them to ride while the white horses seemed more for the cavalry, but then the yellow saddles seemed to be for the brown horses since they didn't have saddles but I've seen people have them on the white horses that had saddles already molded on them. Not sure how they were supposed to be set up.

When you where initiated in the college gentlemans elite society clubs. These figures would paint up well, and the advantage of doing so would be that if you just painted the weapons and webbing or boots and flesh on face and hands they would look great. However if you wanted to paint everything then that would be cool to. As they are all fairly the same in uniform you could quickly line them up and paint them factory style. For example do all boots first, then trousers (pants) webbing, jackets, weapons, flesh etc.

Thats great for me seeing those Marx books! I have the Timpo, Airfix and Britains book you are yet to review as I am in the UK. I am 64 and as a kid I had the six inch Marx figures that were made at the Marx factory in Swansea, Wales, UK. However as in UK we had our equivalent Airfix, Britains, Crescent, Cherilea, Charbens, Timpo, Herald etc. We did not have the Marx playsets seen in your reviewed books. We had playsets from British manufacturers though. I have been collecting since around the 1970's and I have built up a small collection of Marx and Ledo figures through the decades. I have a couple of Marx playset magazines mainly for the articles on western playsets. I still have from the 1960's (however box long gone) the fort cheyanne playset which was made in wood and pressed hardboard had plastic roofs that fitted over the wooden watchtowers. Ledo soldiers as you featured in your book review, also Ledo Indians some that twisted at the waist. And cowboys and mountain men figures. Accessories were wagons (red ones, yellow wheels) cannons and ladders etc. I saw these when you reviewed Ledo pages in the Civil War Marx book. I enjoyed your review especially looking at the pages because they are rare to get over here. Regards, Martin.

I am from the Netherlands, Europe. Those toy Markx sets never were here for sale. It was Britains, Timpo and Airfix toysoldiers. Hardly civil war figures. I guess in those days factory's and shops did consider the local history as valid for producing kid's soldiers. So we had knights of the round table, Romans and Greeks, WW2 soldiers and yes, cowboys and indians. From movies and TV series ofcourse. I am amazed that Markx made a huge quantity of playsets, to get this on the market. The only Markx I got, I know for now, is those big size indians and cowboys. I had 2 indians. A friend of me had 10 of those big cowboys. What I remember from the time as a kid of 11 years old, the details of those figures and the face expressions. They were really good! Thanks for posting!
