I want to know what they smell like. Horses have a horsey smell. Like humans, we women particularly have a variety of smells, at least it always seemed to me. Men don't seem to notice so such.

I, too, had an elderly (34 1/2) go down in winter, Sadly, the mobile vet was on the other side of the county, so I had to have the neighbor shoot her. I was 5 feet away from her when he shot her, he did a great job. One shot and she was gone. I kept her covered in snow for two months but rather than bury her I opted for livestock composting. I didn't know it at the time, but if you have the materials and equipment available, it can be done regardless of weather. Cornell has done studies that prove even horses that are euthanized can be composted and there is no trace of the drugs in the finished compost. It may not be a solution for everyyone but it is a viable alternative. Your county extension agent might have more info. It's been almost 1 1/2 years since she died. In a month or so I will be able to spread Moon Loni's compost in the back pasture. Love your channel. I learned about slowfeed haynets from you several years ago. Fun fact: there are at least 6 states that have legalizes human composting! Yea! I was considering a sky burial but it's not legal in America. We are a squeamish sort of folk, aren't we?

I just bought a 'broke' horse (on a side note i am so sick of lying horse sellers who just want to blame the buyer for their intentional deception.) and she bucks VIOLENTLY. I did this with her and I didn't think she was ever going to stop but I didn't stop until she was loping around without bucking. Do you have a recommendation for something to use that is softer than a rope so it doesn't rub her? (I have had horses over 40 years and have never had or been around one who bucks this violently non stop.)

How horses should be, free from humans on their backs and bits of metal in their mouths, though the brats got a whip which I’m sure is used when they’re being ‘trained’. The whip at this time is used as a deterrent to keep them away from the 4 wheeler… they know what a whips for so keep away.

A whip at my farm is used as a tool, an extension of my hand. Not as any sort of punishment or torture device as you’re making it sound. When horses are excited and running, they can make bad decisions, like smashing into people or objects. In this situation it is used to keep everyone safe, including the horses. It’s a visual for them and an exaggerated version of me waving my arm. Please refrain from leaving unkind comments. I don’t tolerate it and simply block folks from my channel. It’s very simple to move on and watch something you DO enjoy.

You make sure that the kids wear helmets, but neither you nor your husband are wearing a helmet! I assume that you and your husband husband are probably competent riders, freedom of choice and all that, but why take the chance? You have young children 🥰😒🤷

This looks so much like my chestnut mare giving birth to her chestnut colt on 6/6/24. Same windswept legs and sloped in the back with the low sitting back pasterns. He was on house arrest for 6 days until his back legs lifted properly. He couldn't find the teat in what felt like forever. They are too strong to push around, even on unsteady legs to position. He was VERY tall (dad is 17.2, mom is 16.2) but he kept walking completely under her and sometimes came out through her back legs looking for milk. Mom finally learned to swing around to avoid it since her back legs were having pins and needles from birth for a few days. I see your mare shaking out the back legs the same way because of the tingles. The first time he tried to stand, he did it too fast and with too much force and ricocheted to the back wall about 6'. Then when he tried to lay for the first time, he did a head over butt somersault, almost into the front wall. He just went to sleep where he fall. I have several videos of his aborted attempts to lay down due to his fear from the first time. At 42 days old we finally got him to start eating some solids, because he was leaving mom really poor looking and my mare refused the enriched feed, because why wouldn't the princess.

I rescued a starved horse and he rolled and his feet were onder the panels. He was there in the a m. Took me over a few hours to get him up he was so weak. He did that 2 more times in the following months. It scared me so much. A year later he's running around and happy. Thank you for your video.
