That really pissed me off, I LOVED Mr. Eko! I had to take a few breaks from Lost at times due to frustrating or depressing moments but... my god- THAT... damnit :v

Can’t believe this was uploaded 17 years ago. This was one of the saddest deaths in lost, also one of the best characters.

1:04 SPOILER WARNING: Even though we retrospectively discover the black smoke is a villain and thus Eko something of a hero (in a collateral damage kinda way) you can't tell me that the unprecedented brutality of his death juxtaposed against the brutality of his entrance doesn't satisfy a subconscious need for the character's (or at least his symbolic value's) violent retribution? Something deep and dark in the audience must have been reassured by this outcome, especially while we haven't quite figured out how or why the black smoke passes judgement. RIP Eko - You walked tall on the road to redemption... before it fell out from under you. ✊ #2341 #ThePrimalFearIsReal

I love the fact that one of his last thoughts was of him and his brother walking and being pals again that’s really what happened. You know when we die. All we take is our memories of the places we’ve been, foods we’ve tasted, bodies we’ve entered, and the people we loved.

I think the reason Eko didn’t appear in the afterlife was because the scene of he and Yemi walking off was meant to represent him moving on.

Eko actually whispered to Locke “I saw the devil” in his dying moments, but Locke said “you’re next” possibly cuz the truth would be to terrifying

@@Dellen-Roger In what Eko said. Think of it like this: by the time Locke, Sayid, Desmond and the others got to Eko, the Smoke Monster was long gone. In other words, no one else saw it, therefore no one knew what caused Eko’s death. If Locke had told them what Eko actually said (“I saw the Devil”), they probably wouldve been more frightened because they knew Eko was a man of faith, so for them to find him mortally wounded and him to say something like that, it wouldve made them wonder what exactly is on this island.

@@stillgotyourmomYes they would be less afraid because at that point, Eko’s death wouldve been attributed to anything. It wouldnt have nearly been as mysterious. If Locke told them the truth about what Eko said, it wouldve put some serious thought into what exactly could be on the island. Eko was a man of faith. He would never lie about anything like that, especially because he was always repenting for his past mistakes and he wanted to become a better person. Locke lied on purpose. Why? I couldnt tell you. “Get it straight!” Lol I could say the same to you

Im watching this a second time. What I don't understand, is why can the smoke monster kill Eko? He was a candidate as shown in the caves in season six . From what I understand Mib couldn't have directly killed Eko

I don't remember seeing Eko's name in the caves but if he was there then I can see few explanations. I don't think all the names were Candidates. We can assume that MiB copied the list from Jacob's lighthouse but no one said that all the names there stood for Candidates: they were just people that Jacob was observing. Also, mind that some survivors were marked by Jacob AFTER the crash, like Hurley and Sayid. Maybe Eko wasn't marked yet.

Bro I’m a big brother myself, and my lil bro is the most loyal and trusting in my whole family, hes never burned me the way the rest of my family has. When I saw Eko walking with yemi as kids. It reminded me of my baby brother. Shit hit so hard. Unfortunately I don’t live with him anymore and we’ve grown apart due to family issues. We used to be so close.

Eko spoke his last words to Locke because Locke was his closest friend on the Island. I found it strange that Locke said that Eko said that they were next.

Why come erybody fail to realize the Man in Black isn't Samuel anymore? The damn thing masquerades as people on multiple occasions, and everybody still thinks it is Jacob's brother. Smdmfh. Jacob killed his brother. Essentially Cain and Abel. This released darkness/death into paradise. Jesus was the Light that corked that darkness shut. The serpent was bound to the Earth by great, electromagnetic, chains. The smoke monster is that little bit of shit that comes out during a shart. Except, instead of shit, it's Hell. Everything he does is to bring the rest of him out into the World. The Island is Eden.

Because he refused to repent. He couldn't be manipulated by MIB's illusions so MIB killed him.

I’m mad that they killed off Eko before they could flesh out the character because the scene where he murdered the Moroccan drug dealers was still fresh in people’s minds and he obvious had a lot more repentance to do

I'm not sure if he went into the deal with that intention. If so, it wouldn't make much sense why he would bother bargaining down the price of the drugs? I believe the turn was when one of the dealers said something to the effect of, "It's true what they say about you. You have no soul." Following that insult, Eko murders them both.

He was a druglord for years. He had to ask for repentance, not for the smokey of course, but to god. The refusal ruined the character just before his death...

I guess the monster was hungry. It didnt have to to eat ecko. Too bad Locke didnt show up sooner, he would have kicked that monsters ass again, just like he did in "walkabout"

This scene was a GIANT hint to the rest of the show. It's the first time that a character talks to MIB in a way other than the person he appears to be, Eko tells Locke "he's next" in reference to him later being a disguise of the MIB, and finally, and what I think to be the biggest hint, is Eko in the flashback with Yemi representing the final scene of the show in the church. Eko wasn't in the church because he had already "moved on" with Yemi in this scene, as he was the person that had the biggest impact on his life. It's crazy to watch these a second time because I always wonder how the heck I didn't manage to catch on to it all.

I know your comment is old, but Locke lied to Sayid about what Eko whispered in his ear. Eko actually said “I saw the Devil”, and for some reason Locke lied and said that Eko said “we’re next”.

I highly doubt that the writers planned the church scene at this point. Also use logic instead of trying the build an in-story narrative. The actor wanted out of the show.

This scene.. "How can you think i'm your brother" ? You can clearly see a glimpse of MIB on it, because he hates his brother, Jacob. "Who are you?" said Eko? It's the first time a character speak to the Monster as if he's SOMEONE and not just a "monster" . "You are next" to Locke. I mean this scene proved they knew where they gonna go with Smockey and Jacob.
