Hi Matt, If the Ais prevented the Spanish from being able to salvage shipwrecks, is it possible that there are unsalvaged wrecks nearby? Thank you for sharing all the great videos. The gold mining videos are a treasure by themselves.
@mattmattsongold
@mattmattsongold 4 күн бұрын
That is exactly what happened. There are shipwrecks scattered along the line of the 1715 fleet wrecks that are far older. Suspected another fleet went in at the same location and is deeper in the sand. One has been discovered (scattered). Look for Bob Weller 1715 fleet - he is the one who sent me out west (I was just a diver at the time) to find gold. Bob was a UDT diver in WWII and #6 on the all time treasure list for many years - in later life he wrote many books about the 1715 & 1733 wrecks. Had his own crews, salvage boats, etc.

@@mattmattsongold OK, I've heard of Bob Weller and the 1715 + 1733 wrecks. As you noted, there should be wrecks that are far older. Surely there must be untouched ships to be found, or pockets of treasure to be discovered. Metal detectors only go so deep, so I've always assumed there is still gold on the beach, just too deep for peoples detectors. Perhaps pay-streaks, that get tossed in storms. But I'm still learning and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

@@ryonlabaw1498 : you are correct in all that. I used to run a treasure diver forum, and all that was discussed privately and some in public. Just N of St. Lucie Inlet is one of the 1715 wrecks I was metal detecting near the low water mark and got a hit and dug down to my armpits. I could just barely feel the top of a bar, which was the size of a silver bar, and the detector had told me silver. The tide was coming in, I didn't have a snorkel, and before I knew it I could no longer hold out against the tide. When I came back, there was even more sand deposited (it was making a sand bar) and no longer in my reach at all. I did find one of 3 silver spikes ever found though (when they replaced a plank in the early 1500's they had no foundries so simply made a spike out of silver). Read everything you can by Bob "Frogfoot" Weller. He was diving and running crews into his 80's - he'll teach you the business through his many books. Good luck!

@@mattmattsongold Excellent info. That must have been both exciting and frustrating to have those possible silver finds just out of reach in a 5 foot hole. The thought of a Spanish galleon with silver ship spikes, is every treasure hunters dream. Without giving to much out publicly, I just wanted to get your thoughts on prospects of that deep beach gold. Thanks for confirming there should be some there. I will be reading up on Bob "Frogfoot" Weller. I work in EE and as a side project I am building a multifreq GPR unit for myself and perhaps a few others. My main focus is finding cracks and false bedrock, where I am located in norcal gold country. I also want to try the device on the Florida beaches to look for this deeper beach gold. You're doing a great service for the treasure hunting community. I appreciate for your time.

Excellent on the engineering! Good work and I wish you much success! No need to reply as I won't be around to reply for awhile.

NOTE: The ORIGINAL "JOHN DEERE GREEN" paint was a DARKER and DULLER shade of GREEN; Many restored John Deere FARM TRACTORS & AGRICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS are repainted in JOHN DEERE CONSUMER PRODUCTS GREEN, which is MUCH BRIGHTER in HUE, which is WRONG for these pieces of Equipment. JOHN DEERE STILL MANUFACTURES TRACTOR & FARM IMPLEMENT GREEN in the ORIGINAL SHADE OF JOHN DEERE GREEN. I KNOW the DIFFERENCE, because I USED TO SELL THIS STUFF.!!! @@mattmattsongold any information you can give me on clay? I’m working this gray/rusty colored clay and I feel like pretty much any time I’m digging I’m finding gold. Definitely harder to dig but the gold is the best I’ve found. Seems like the rusty layer is more rich. I know you said don’t leave gold to find gold just curious if you think I’m wasting time dealing with the clay and over burden.
@mattmattsongold
@mattmattsongold 25 күн бұрын
@@CaidenStanton : the gold sticks to the clay - if you've got mask and snorkel - fan off whatever is above it and look at it for gold you can pick off. Clay is a double edged sword - don't know if you're working cracks or working a bar with a sluice - but if a sluice that clay can remove gold too. ---- If you're working cracks - go ahead and get it out as long as you see gold in it. You might just get beneath the clay layer and into some really great gold and try this: take a concreted drill or a wood drill slightly smaller than the crack and drill down into it. You'll know real quick how deep the gold is and maybe how deep the crack is too. I sure wish I was physically able to help. Nothing like what you're doing.

@@mattmattsongold I have checked pretty much every spot you marked along the south hard to find river access anymore and I don’t have air currently, along with the dredging stipulations basically impossible. I’m only 24 it’s still a hobby I’d love to see a day where it was my source of income. Working a sluice in a whole bar of clay typically don’t dig this much but I’m super curious what is under the clay layer just didn’t know if I was wasting my time. I’ve worked cracks, most that I’ve been in are clean I’ve found one piece of stingy gold in the bedrock but I need to find some more discrete places.
@mattmattsongold
@mattmattsongold 24 күн бұрын
@@CaidenStanton : most often - in a bar - there's not much if anything below the clay layer - the gold is stuck on top of it. Clay in a crack - we always removed that - since it can act like a stopper - while gold infiltrates to the sides and slides beneath it. I'm not about to tell you not to remove some clay and check though - we all did - but usually, there just wasn't much there. Thin layer - I'd remove a bunch and look - thick layer (foot+) - I'd think twice, maybe try and find the edges of the clay and check those spots or look for the next spot in your gold line upstream to prospect (downstream is likely more clay).

Because of my sons bad leg He wanted to take of before we got it all out. We just road around and saw where a forester person moved some large white stones got my stone Book out and saw it was Rhyolite bolder The next year after my son died went back and saw my stone was rhyolite and the hill had red pine and schoch pine that the CCC camp camp people planted from 1930 to WWII The second volcano I call Mother Nature volcano A 20 food diameter bolder sat on the rim of the volcano and blew sand for miles and miles. One day metal detecting notice a rock that was roundish the sand had to rub against this to get here and all rocks that are in a rock stone quarry pit are roundJust to let you know they were not all river rocks like geologist say. I like your 5 cent deal sounds like and oz of gold. and how gold gets in rivers If you want to see black bear sleep at night and what moose does to trees see [ centure new technologies' company ] got out of mantal detecting movies but not looking for gold

What would make my more recent 33's drag seaze up
@mattmattsongold
@mattmattsongold Ай бұрын
It's kind of counterintuitive, but a lot of those drags need grease to work - smear some on and give that a shot. If it still doesn't work, take it apart and see if the facings of the drag are burred (if metal), or (hopefully not) mashed, etc. If the metal facings are scarred - burnish them with a smooth tool (any will do). If the drag is phenolic block or another softer type - you might need new parts to fix properly. Good luck!

@mattmattsongold 3 ай бұрын
George: I can work on it - and so can you. The "feather touch" feature is simply two springs on the end of the activator bar. There are clips there and Zebco never did get that feature robust enough to last - it was quickly discontinued. If you take the springs off - you have a normal Zebco 33 of that era. If the springs are still there and one is off - put it back into the slot (magnification helps). If one is broken - your best bet is simply taking the other off and the reel is fully fishable again. Hope that helps!

No - I finally saw a Zebco 55 on a table for sale and as luck would have it my wallet was in the car . . . and by the time I got it and back - it was gone.

I'll be back in the field soon! I'm feeling that gold is a good hedge against inflation

Excellent! My mother and grandmothers told me to "save the antique plates" and not sell them as they'd be worth a mint "someday." It's been almost 30 years since the last one of them died and I might get $3 a piece at the flea market. Nothing holds value like gold.

I would have picked that as well - but this one is special, it belonged to my great-uncle: Roy Baker. He was a silent film actor (extra) - down on his luck he walked into a hotel in Miami and the manager said: "Where have you been?" Turns out their recent mail order hired hotel manager had failed to show - after hearing this Uncle Roy looked at him and said: "You're in luck - I just happen to be a hotel manager." He went on to become hotelier to the stars of that age and had hotels in Kennebunkport, Lake Placid NY, Lake Placid Fl, Sebring, Fl, Miami and who knows where else. Each had rides and amusements like Disney. He's listed in the who's who of hoteliers and part of his story is here on KZfaq in "An Immigrant's Tale" about the early Mattson Family. I hope you have a fine time in your travels!

yes sir I know they there are many I live in Gresham, OR. and I'd like to file a claim somewhere between Mt. St. Helen's and Mt. Adams or somewhere down by Cow Creek, S. Umpqua, or my uncle lives on Ruby creek N. Idaho...I've tried to put all the google maps and USGS and I want to do it all Matt or Mr. Mattson, I wanna, prospect, mine, gems and precious metals and make jewelry! That is what I am working on already...but I'm limited for now to the PNW as I am on SSI and should be on SSID but the justice system let 2 attempted murderers go with all the witnesses and cameras and admissions of guilt but they made 50.2 billion in 2018 and I got there in Jan. 2019 and was caught there till the beginning of 2020...so I'm trying to get something going that I can do, I know it's hard work I used to frame homes so I know hard work but my body is much more beat up...I made it to the Snake for 6 days but only had 24 hours at Cow creek, Lawson bar, the place where you got a bunch of platinum and gold around desolation flats and only was able to get a small amount from down there, where the place on the Snake there was a cheap hotel......anyways I need help as I am just healing from the traumatic brain injuries to where I can think a little clearer...so thanks for all you do...lol...thanks Matt
