Do you see any value with having the kids from regular gyms compete? Or maybe it’s better they not compete until they have the time to commit more to jiu jitsu?

I believe there is value in kids competing regardless of gym at white belt. Once they level up it becomes a lot more challenging for "non-comp" school students to compete. It's not impossible but the "non-comp" school student needs to put in extra work like privates with the coach or drill and train outside of class. I believe the comp schools already have the piece in place for their students. Thanks for asking.

5'2 blue belt here. I wouldn't pull guard as the smaller player. You're putting yourself in bottom position right off the bat. I know it feels safer to pull guard and even to be on bottom but it's better to stay on top as much as possible. Make the big guy work for it.
