Nope. I found one of mine the other day I forgot to secure. The finish was a little marred from a 1 ounce egg sinker. Maybe no big thing, but the slightest damage to the structure can lead to rod failure with a big fish.

@Fishing4Reel26 күн бұрын
This is mainly for large egg sinkers on a Carolina Rig. They tend to be in the middle of the rod during transport and can rattle against the rod a bit. Here, along the coast, it is normal to drive to and from the beach or pier with all your rods in the beach/pier cart in the back of your truck or cart carrier. Those sinker can beat the snot out of a rod at 40 to 70 miles per hour. I still wrap my line around the rod to contain it too. Also, I used to think rod socks were a gimmick until I tried them. They are fantastic for transporting your rods and avoiding tangles especially through brushy areas.

I'm going to Sikes tomorrow night to try and catch the ever-elusive Hard Head and Gafftop Sail catfish. They're actually very good tasting fish if you cut the tail off and let'em bleed out. Thanks for the tip on the "fish grabbers". That looks like a much better way to handle a catfish than the way I do it, which is negotiating with it not to stick me! BTW, the world record for both Hard Head and Sail Catfish is only about 10 lbs or so. Sikes usually has many that size in shallower water. Great Video!

Thanks. I really appreciate the kind words. It was a tough day, but I have to work with what I'm given. Those grabbers are very handy. They come in a set, one with two teeth and one with three teeth. I found the two teeth to be the best size. I also have a glove that is an easy on glove that's pretty handy too. I've heard plenty say that the gafftop is good. It all just depends on how you prepared it.

How do you like that Fish Grabber? Do you like the two-prong or the 3-prong for large Catfish? First time I've seen these used.
@Fishing4Reel2 ай бұрын
The 2 prong works just fine for smaller fish. The 3 prong would be better for bigger fish though. I just got a easy on glove that works well too. The cuff on the back of the glove is short and allows you to slip it on pretty easy. It has a magnetic connector with a clip. Look up Fishing Glove with magnet release. If you are right handed, get the left handed one and vice versa.
