He was one of, if not THE, best vocalists. And he probably had a decent shout for creating Rock n Roll. But i think he's going off on one here. How big was his room? He had a serious amount of budding musicians sleeping on his floor. The Beatles? the Stones? I bet he never got it off on that revolution stuff.

Ringo: the most influential drummer of the world: what he did has become the default a drummer do. Vinnie Colaiuta praises him, his rhythmic session colleague, Paul, praises his perfect timing... He was a worthy Beatle, innovating a lot, doing the right thing, and never exaggerating. The perfect drummer fir the greatest band.

I found myself being a bit angry that the only song that wasn’t “interpreted” by the artist when they did the cover was Phil Collins taking on the most well known iconic Beatles Medley. Sure, you can take it apart note for note and part for part and mimic each note and “redo” it “better” with modern technology. Celine Dion isn’t imitating, she’s interpreting. Bobby McFarin and Robin Williams are doing their spin on an iconic song and making it a different artistic piece. But Phil Collin’s doing the Beatles’ most iconic perfect medley, mimicking it note for note instead if interpreting it like all of the other artists on this album, and then “outdoing” Ringo on the drum solo rubbed me the wrong way. Yes, it was well done, and he nailed it. But I wonder if it was somehow a sore spot for Paul Mc Cortney? Maybe that’s why Paul insulted Phil when they met a couple of years later?

What was expected of us as drummers was: Know your rudiments & how to fit them into the music when appropriate. Ambidexterity--watch Buddy Rich or Louie Bellson cross hands. Ringo doesn't come from that area of discipline, but what he does is amazing.

Such elimentary drumming - Ringo & Charlie Watts, two drummers often feted for just being ok

I think the drumming for In My life is the greatest drum sequence which complements a songs harmony. It is just flawless and the song would be entirely different with any other drum sequence.

Ringo plays right hand drums but leads with his left hand. Im left handed and play drums right handed too, thats why Come Together never felt right when I lead with my right hand, I used to lead with my left hand too just to make it feel right. Now I finally know why.

George Martin was a skilled recording engineer and producer before the Beatles, known for taking risks in that staid world of recording music at EMI in the early 60s. He also had a sound musical background himself. But his best trait, vis-à-vis the Beatles, was seeing who they were and where they might be headed, and letting them be themselves, which was just the right encouragement they needed to flourish. In short, George Martin’s temperament, grounded in high emotional intelligence, was his most important trait.
