Preach good Man! I actually built an entire buisness and youtube channel around building integrating and testing smart home tech . Recently I decided to delete all my videos and start again from scratch . Highliting more honesty in my reviews. I've had them all .... biggest mistake was the google Ecosystem. I'm still with SmartThings and amazon at the moment . If I'm honest . I'm afraid of home assistant. I don't have the time to learn a 6th hub .... it's too much ! Anyway great video! I'm subbed

I respectfully disagree with your video but understand why you are frustrated . I am running over 300 devices and rarely have any issues. In fact, I was challenged by a friend that I couldn’t go a month without a single issue. I am over 3 months now. The issues I do run into are outside controlled devices like ring and google that require going out or receiving information from the internet. This is why I am migrating from ring to unifi. 100 percent solid. I think your main issue is that you are choosing the wrong equipment. Usually it does require spending more money but comes without frustration. These are companies like Lutron, Unifi, and Schlage. The one big exception is Aqara. Their devices are inexpensive and solid. Their batteries last for years. For example, I have 2 motion detectors in my kitchen (high traffic) and am going on 3 years with the original batteries. Furthermore, I have a 100% wife approval except for my ‘Room Service’ announcement button.😊

I am slowly phasing out a lot of my more problematic devices. I have a unifi wifi system. I will be replacing my ring system soon. All my sensors will be Aqara. But yes a lot of my frustrations came from the devices I chose in the beginning because they were cheaper.

Smartthings station does not have z wave vs aerotec smartthings. Yolink needs their own hub but it is inexpensive and they have unreal range for outdoor driveway sensor , mailbox , and freezer temp function. Different frequency.

What an honest and refreshing video! These have been my own main frustrations through my first four/five years of smart home. Why, for example, does one of my five Tuya-based heaters refuse to tell Alexa what temperature it's set to, when all the others do? And why does Alexa insist on giving me the weather forecast for a totally-unrelated place in the States before she gives me my UK (inaccurate!) one? Whilst smart plugs normally work well in switching on sockets that are difficult to reach, why does a different one fail ten percent of the time? I love my smart home, and now think that it's time for me to look at Home Assistant...

I’m so glad you shared. This video as an installer as well! I was quoted between 1000-2000 to install 200 feet. The cheaper estimate installer actually said he would fasten the leds and have a page on fb called all pro exteriors. I’m worried about the sloppy look of the wires - and as an installer I would think you would use a fastener at least and not just stick them with 3m. I got estimate of trimlight for 200 feet $4500! But the track lighting looks so much better . I don’t think they are really permenant lights - track lights are

This use case is all backwards. We want smart controls to step away from in-wall switches. Why bother with this when you can activate most things with voice assistants nowadays. I looked for something for sonos quick control, but not gonna pay $400 for this.
@FritzHTS
@FritzHTS 3 ай бұрын
I agree. Matter of fact I am moving away from relying on voice assistants and just using automation. However, there are still people out there that like some sort of physical control for when the automations and voice assistants are not working correctly.

Fantastic video! The issue of the lights staying up.. I'm working on a solution for that. I think I came up with a solid plan.. it will be easier than their clips but should never come down. I will be using a self tapping screw far better than Govee supplied. Making these takes some doing, however. If interested.. I can keep you posted on the outcome. I purchased Govee Pro. They arrived late. I work with the kind of 3M tape Govee provides, so I am well aware of it failures, especially in cold weather. I will install it when mid to late spring with what I came up to hold them up.. permanently.

Yes.. I do not have a 3D printer, unfortunately. 3D printer take time, so I can not see my idea being any quicker in that regard. The outcome should be better on installation. I hope. I base my project on a two-piece system. Part A, attached to the govee puck. Part B, attached to the soffet with screw. Currently, I am using a PVC based material that will not disintegrate over time. Thanks for your interest.. How long dore it take the printer to make a set of your style clips for a 100 set of Govee lights?

I was not trying to us brilliant as my smart home controller. was using it to integrate with my smart home. I use home kit.. You forgot to mention the 69 dollar switches. Like I said, there are a lot of good things about the switch. I still have my two installed and do not plan on taking them out. I did not mention their regular switch because I have not used them and did not feel right giving an opinion on them. These switches were ground breaking when they first came out, so I understand their price tag for back then. However, I was just making the point that currently there are cheaper competitors now with most, if not all of the same functionality. Does your homekit devices show up in the Brilliant control panel? I'm curious if there was something I was doing wrong with that.

@bagrubmeister4973 7 ай бұрын
@@FritzHTS I see why you have not mentioned the switches. You should try them and the plugs as well. I have priced some of the other switches out there especially Lutron and if you price compare and do it right they are not that far apart in pricing. You did not miss anything they Homekit devices do not how up in brilliant. I did not expect them to because my home kit is my controller for my smart home. I do wish there was more integrations like you said. I guess it depends on what you plan to use to control your smart home. I use HomeKit to control my home and my brilliant lights. I like that the control panel can show my ring video, and control my thermostat and grrage door and my front door lock.

There is always the old school intercom systems you can have installed in your home. But if you are looking for a Smart home related solution, you can use Amazon Echos and get a Flic button. Flic buttons can trigger Alexa routines. You set a routine "If Flic pressed it will trigger an Alexa custom command (Alexa, drop into all devices), she will them drop into all other echos in your house." We use the echos pretty regularly as our intercom system in our house. You can just say "Alexa, drop into (whatever device you are wanting)".
