my friend used to opt for the apple juice since the milk was always spoiled, one day she took a sip and noticed it was fermented and there was something hard in it so she opened it fully and there was a mushroom growing out of the bottom :) better luck than the guy at the table behind us, his had 3 lmao (they switched to plastic containers a few months after, still tended to be spoiled but no mushrooms)

When I was little, I was forced to wear a lot of pink and girly stuff (I’m a girl btw). I have never liked it which is not a very good thing because I was forced to wear those types of clothes. A few years later, I decided to tell my mum and dad that I REALLY didn’t like it! Soon, they understood, now I’m wearing baggy pants, gray t-shirts with short hair, I love being me :)

As a former jump roper…it is a thing. It was so much fun and I would show off so much and would go across the Midwest for competitions. I even got to see Arnold Schwarzenegger because of it. I used to be horrible at jump rope but with many years I was pretty good (although I couldn’t do the gymnastics part because of my hypermobility)

I tried using those boards as skateboards. Was too scared to do any tricks without a helmet, though.

Honestly looking back our school food was never good but elementary was the worst. One meal we got once a month was corn bread, mini corn dogs, and corn. Another breakfast of these really gross pre packaged blueberry. pancakes that would waft through the halls of the school . We did not get water as an option, just milk.

I remember in elementary gym we used to play some kind of game where we would split up in teams and throw yarn balls at each other? I don't really remember what the goal of the game was, but I was so bad at hitting people that I resigned myself to 'ball collector' in which I would just collect the balls and hand them out for my team.

Man, I never had school lunch that came with a long line of desserts. We only ever got a pack of (very bland) chocolate chip cookies. The rest of the snacks were at the student store/snack shack.

4:20 In other words: even the manufacturers themselves had no idea what it was for. Just like when Phineas and Ferb made the new hit toy "Perry Inaction Figure", which had no functions of its own and its usage was left for the buyer's imagination.😉

I remember playing a Barbie DS game when I was much younger. It was the only one in the library, so I borrowed it. My mom got scared when she saw me playing a "girl game" (I am half Latino.) Good times.

I wonder if the creator of this has ever watched Angela Anaconda. 🇨🇦 Also, we had scooter boards (I don't remember what we called them, but that feels off) at my elementary schools in various Canadian provinces too! Aaaand we played "cat and mouse" with the parachute. Did you see that kid get yanked under? That was so cool! And we called the PACER test "beep test" which was actually quite popular and fun among my peers. I had to do it 2 to 4 times a year as a teen, which I loved. We always got super competitive and someone always got hurt or sick via exhaustion. Ah, childhood. And the beep test had a computery male-presenting voice.

15:40 yup, that creative chaos sounds about right for forums. Are the forums still like that today? A lot of forums have died off over the past decade. Also jeeze where DID you hang out on the web, you're too old to have been on reddit and twitter exclusively from day one.

What I really hated about the pacer test was that there were to many kids on the line. The first part it was incredibly difficult to touch the line since everyone was so squished together.

I never did the pacer in elementary school. That was a Jr high specialty. And instead of one line to the other, they made us run across the ENTIRE GYM!!! You had it easy Jelly! I absolutely HATED the pacer with every fiber of my being. Not even 3 laps in I was winded! I hate that they expect every kid to run in school! I was never the kid that likes running, as an adult I still hate running. I've learned to appreciate jogging for brief periods though. Maybe it's because I grew up in high elevation and on a big hill. 🤔 Once I had a dream that I was running up and down my hill (whilst on stilts) and I loved it. Then when I woke up I wanted to run, then I remembered I hate running lol Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

I find the prizes really interesting because the few that I did in my elementary school didn’t have anything like that. I know there were a few fundraisers that gave little animal keychains like sharks or bears, and they had a bunch of different colors and patterns, not something I would want today but I will say my innate urge to collect and my crippling fomo was a pretty good incentive. Although most that we did gave us coupons. They would be something like “dress up day” or “miss an assignment of your choice.” Then the bigger prizes would be something like the money catcher or I know one year they brought in a game bus where they had consoles set up and we could play games like Minecraft or Mario kart. The weirdest thing they did though had to be the bubble wrap contest they did. If you sold A LOT you could participate in this competition in front of your whole grade where they had students step on bubble wrap and whoever popped all the bubble wrap first won a Hershey’s chocolate bar the size of their small child torso. It’s so so strange thinking back on it, especially since they did this in the auditorium in front of the whole grade, in complete silence but I know that the one time I participated I failed and was so so disappointed.

I remember a game called “popcorn” where we’d put those balls with the holes on the tent and throwing them about with the tent. Then we’d run and put the strewn balls back into the tent. That was a lot of fun.
