You can get a train ride across Turkey to the Ani area for about $12, but you may want to make reservations and pay much more for accomodations on a tourist train. Whoever drives you to the Ani site, you may want to tell them you plan to stay most of the day, as one or two hours may not be enough time.

walking in the streets of Kars, one can still feel the Armenenianness of the city through its Architecture and black and red tuff buildings. Russians again traded off Kars for their own benefits.
