What a wonderful layout, and an interesting character. Thanks for posting. Can I ask if it's in his basement or one a first floor?

Thank you for capturing all this. What a remarkable talent he has for making structures come to life. I'd love to see when you're showing his work on WNTW. Is there a date for it?

Amazing!! You can create scenes from any era. That takes talent!! The buildings are more interesting than the trains! Actually, where are the trains??

I liked the lighting project. I have bunch of buildings completed for my next layout, so that may be something that I incorporate into it. I'm also going to hit the used furniture stores for some inexpensive dressers to use for locomotive and car storage beneath main layout. Should open up space a bit more in my layout room which also has my ham radio station.

Great idea! I've had that dresser for a 8 years and the other I took from the side of the road...free is free lol

I've noticed on so many of these model railroads that people forget to weather their rolling stock, so while everything else looks beautiful and realistic, the rolling stock is out-of-the-box and detracts from the realism of the scenery.

Having a weathering business, I absolutely agree. It takes time to weather a vast collection. It's not something you do overnight rather its something you enjoy the journey. I also work on clients' projects more than mine plus I am a full time railroader. When i want to relax, that's what I do....weather and build kits.

@@TouchoftheBrushModelWeathering Years ago, my wife and I were getting into modeling. Never built the RR, but we built some kits and weathered some rolling stock. I found Conte chalks with a good stiff oil painting brush worked very well on rolling stock. I still have those cars ...and no RR! LOL.

It may work. I had the ink available to me, so I experimented using the ink. But I agree, the ink is very expensive. The black spray paint was under $3 in walmart

I thought a carload would have the same sized lumps. Different loads would be different sizes, but an entire carload the same size. I certainly could be wrong.
@TouchoftheBrushModelWeathering

None of the rock in my loads is the same size... just to scale based on realism. I doubt crushed rock that I got from the ground has all the exact size.

Joey, those look great. What did you use for the original loads? Were they plastic ones that come with some cars? Love that coal train.

@JoeyG. Try adding "Black Pearl" medium course Artist pan pastel to your loads. Use the dollar store, white makeup sponges to apply here and there. It will give your loads that subtle sparkle that coal has. You can use a fixative too if you want.

Outstanding weathering. I love the techniques and I will try some of them. In the past I have weathered with acetone and solvent based paints. This is good stuff. Oh that music....it's so annoying! I want to hear what you have to say not that terrible music. Thanks for sharing your wonderful skills.
