And when I was a "little man", I had the great fortune of having parents who didnt just love music...but as a kid born and raised in DC, I had the privilege of having parents who would take me to concerts on a regular basis. Ive been to so many, Ive lost count. So, Ive seen the greatest of the great. I saw a young Patti LaBelle, when she first went solo in '77, at the Kennedy Center Opera House. She was Le'Andria before Le'Andria came to be. I saw the late, great Linda Jones, in one of her last concerts before she died, at the Warner Theater...it was my very first concert, and I was 4.. I saw Phyllis Hyman, numerous times at a few places in DC...the last time was at Constitution Hall, with Jean Carne as her opening act. I saw Aretha twice, during the 70s..and her intensity and power, was so unique and "dangerous", all you could was stand and witness her talent, and enjoy it. Ive seen Nina Simone and Eartha Kitt, a few yrs before both of them died. Ive seen Roberta Flack and Anita Baker and Chaka, with Rufus. And as much as I dig all of those awesome women, NOT ONE OF THEM, outside of that young Patti LaBelle that I saw on her own at the Kennedy Center, has the same kind of edge, power, skill and intensity, that Le'Andria has.
