I experienced something similar, minus the grenade. It was a descending radius corner at 130mph on a motorcycle. Everything seemed to be in slow motion, but my mind was racing. It allowed me to salvage the corner without running off the road or crashing.

I wanted to go to war but I didn't want to die. If you die it means somethings fucked up or I've fucked up because I wasn't a good soldier!! Whilst I wasn't afraid of dying I wanted to be useful as a soldier who is alive rather than dead. But if the situation needed it I would have sacrificed myself to save others but that's how we all thought in the Royal Australian Regiment!!

It happened to me but I was working tech support and my heart gave out. I was trying to talk and scream anything and I could hear the customer going irate because I could not respond. F***d up up feeling I know. I can't imagine being in a high stress situation like you where.
