Swooping season is september - daddys looking after their new born babies. To protect yourself, either use an umbrella when walking, or make friends with them - feed them mince of even better love meal worms from the pet shop. Once you feed them they are your friend forever.

❤I raised a magpie. They are soooo amazing and smart! The male only swoops once his babies are born… to protect them! Ward off predators. It’s only for a few weeks while the baby is in the nest and fledging. My Magpie Cheeky was more connected to me mentally than most humans. She was incredible .. affectionate and once she was free came back with a crystal as a gift before flying off with her boy friend. They are so loyal and stay with one mate for life. I love Magpies. ❤

I'm surprised they're protected. There are plenty of magpies that DON'T attack humans. Protect those, and let humans defend themselves without consequences if the birds attack them.

Magpies don’t attack you forever but only for six weeks while they have babies in the nest. They are not dangerous and do not aim for your eyes. They do NOT kill babies. Their song is beautiful. These two people are not Australian. Just don’t go near the trees where they live. Walk around the swooping area.

A senior citizen in my area for some unknown reason decided to provoke a magpie at the park. The magpie wasn't going to take his bs and proceeded to attack the man every time he returned to the park to watch the soccer. He tried wearing a hat and glasses and even used an umbrella to hide his face. But the magpies knew it was him every time and proceeded to whip his ass with constant assaults. In the end the man gave up and stopped going to the park.

Feeding them proper food ( not mince or bread ) has been known to stop them swooping . Its generally the males that swoop as they are trying to show their mate they can protect the nest When the chicks leave the nest the swooping drops right off and they leave you alone. But waving keys at them or swinging things at them only makes them more aggresive

Next to Dropbears, man-eating spiders and the vicious 30 foot brush snakes, these are by far the most dangerous animal in Australia on land. And they are everywhere. The government keeps a tight lid on Magpie associated fatalities to prevent any negative impact on tourism, but the amount of blind people here vicious gouged by magpies speaks for itself. I urge any Americans that come to holiday to be aware. We have a saying here: look up and survive! The waters are even more dangerous from the rivers with ancient predators like the Murrumbidgee Mud Shark to the rogue white pointers in the oceans. This is a dangerous country where only the fittest of bronzed men survive.

This is wrong we all know in Australia just cover your head when a magpie has red eyes run for your life they hurt.
