Una esecuzione straordinaria di questo Requiem. Composizione di alto livello musicale. In campo di musica religiosa M.Haydn è molto bravo. E d’altronde Salisburgo ha un secolare tradizione (Biber).

Just stumbled upon this masterpiece. I'm not religious at all and I don't know the meaning of this music but Agnus Dei makes you reflect on oneself.

Astonishing in every which way ; from the start with deep sorrow and solemness until redemptive finish. As a chorister, I would absolutely love to sing this masterpiece someday. 💝💝💝 PS : I love the painting too. The contrast of the graveyard and the blue sky perfectly match this sublime music.

It's a beautiful cemetery. And his grave is in the communal vault. Mozart's sister Marianne lies there as well.

More in the style of a Concerto than a Serenade. Johann Michael Haydn is known more for his pastoral works. Serenade must be in a more flowing style and tempo and less abrupt as this piece. Take the example of Eine Klein Natchmusik by Mozart (Serenade No.13) or Haydn's/Hoffmeister's Serenade. Titus. India

What a glorious work! Even if it is a Sibelius recording, it still sounded beautiful! Michael Hayden has really grown on me. Thank you for posting this.

I love this symphonia. Software Sibelius does a pretty good job here. 🌻 PS : Isn't this very similar to Mozart's Jupiter or am I reading it too much?

Actually, you are not heading the wrong way since the fugato finale is quite similar: "Scholars are certain Mozart studied Michael Haydn‘s Symphony No. 28 in C major, which also has a fugato in its finale and whose coda he very closely paraphrases for his own coda. Charles Sherman speculates that Mozart also studied Michael Haydn’s Symphony No. 23 in D major because he “often requested his father Leopold to send him the latest fugue that Haydn had written." Sinceramente scarsa ispirazione e tanto mestiere. Le sinfonie del fratello minore di Haydn non possono competere con quelle del più famoso. D’altronde Salisburgo è un ambiente dove trionfava la musica sacra.

Heavenly. I try to avoid comparing the brothers Haydn, but Johann Michael had a more profound spiritual sensibility than Franz Joseph, IMO.

I just stumbled upon this. This CD was released as WORLD PREMIERE in 2006, 200 years after JMH died ( 1806) ! Very late, but better than never. Let's hope this kind of project continues. More of JMH's music has to be discovered.

Again, why is this World Premiere??? With real human voices, this would be a magnificent choral work. I like especially the 2nd movement Jesu fili , where SATB each has a Tutti part. Beautiful!! 💖💖💖
