What are likely steps to getbto this stage where the movement runs as well as this?
@okbridges
@okbridges 29 күн бұрын
Movement needs to be clean and any any wear issues (if present) should be addressed. In these movements, worn pallet lever pivot holes will rob a lot of energy from the escapement.
@classydays43
@classydays43 29 күн бұрын
@@okbridges I figured as much. I discovered the pin wire levers have a tendency to bend and "catch" on the escape wheel, which can do the same thing.

Can a Singer 15-90 clone be put into a Singer 15-91 cabinet? The cabinet is the typical Singer cabinet and the opening is 7 x 14.5. My clone machine measures the same as the Singer 15-91, 7x14.5. Thank you.
@okbridges
@okbridges 2 ай бұрын
Check the pin spacing on the clone to be sure, but yes, you can put a 15-90 in a 15-91 cabinet. The 15-88 to 15-91 are all the same machine.

Hello, i just installed a conversion on my standard A, i took out the the set screw for the gear that slides and changes gears but it is still only spinning with the shaft turning. Is there a froove it sits in or am i missing something?
@okbridges
@okbridges 2 ай бұрын
You may need to disassemble the gear from the shaft and clean it. The shaft has a shoulder and the clearances are tight and any gunk from dirt and dried oil could easily bind them up.

The engine was originally installed in a zinc smelter in a Blackwell, Oklahoma, a town about 1 hour to the NW. the smelter closed in 1974. During its peak in the late 1950's and early 1960's, 20% of the zinc used annually in the US came from the Blackwell Smelter and 10% of the zinc used worldwide annually came from the smelter as well.

They have reformulated Brasso. It is a mere shadow of what it was 40 years ago. Does not polish like it formerly did. You can still get the original formula from Thailand. New stuff is junk.

Brasso is what they would have used back in the day. I used to mix in a bit of fine sawdust with it. It becomes thicker so it can stick to parts better and is mildly more abrasive!

This is also the exact setup for Model E Triumph phonographs. On my Triumph the pulley which should have been labeld "E" or "D" was actually labeled "C" but it looked exactly like the one you show and it worked with no problems at all, so apparently even a "C" pulley will work on the D and E models. I know that on some earlier models this can be a problem but it has worked for me for several years with no problems.

Hi from maple creek, Saskatchewan. I have a 1954 Singer 15J and the stitch length indicator is extremely stuff - actually quite difficult to move from forward to reverse. Everything is oiled, but should I remove the slotted cover and oil directly inside? Thamks.
@okbridges
@okbridges 4 ай бұрын
It sounds like the stitch length lever needs attention. The lever pivots on a shouldered screw and has a belleville washer which keeps it tight enough to stay parked in the position you put it. Too loose is caused by the screw being loose or the washer being cracked or missing, and too tight would be from old gummed oil, dirt or rust. Remove the balance wheel to gain access to the opening in the arm under the mainshaft and remove the front stitch regulator plate and the rear access plate. Then remove the shouldered screw and belleville washer and clean. If you can't work the lever out of place to clean it outside the machine, clean it in place, and clean the lug the shouldered screw screws into where the lever rubs against it. Check the belleville washer as well, it is made of thin copper/bronze and is slightly dished. It is possible the original was replaced with a plain washer and is the reason for your problem. Once everything checks out, oil as you reassemble.

Hi I just found this video on KZfaq and I am going to enjoy your channel going forward. We have very similar interests. I have an Aladdin Model B Green glass Cathedral lamp that glows beautifully with a black light. I am going to try to find a double socket electric fixture like you showed so I can have a regular bulb on top and a black light bulb in the bottom. That would really enhance the look. After watching this video I am going to start collecting more Aladdin lamps. I am anxious to set one up with oil to help heat my house the two days I need it in the winter in southwest Florida. Jerry

BE CAREFUL. Don't light a center draft or Aladdin lamp and walk off! The flames will flare up as the lamp heats. Wait 10 to 15 minutes to adjust flame and they will be safe and stable. So sad to see these fine old lamps electrified and ruined. Of course they still make Aladdin lamps!

It is not ideal to run a player piano from a shop vac as the vacuum level is WAYYY too high for what the system is designed for. That vacuum is pulling 100 or more inches of water, whereas the player is designed to run from 5-10. Tiny leaks from leather pores, or minute gasket issues are greatly amplified and can show false positives when troubleshooting. You'll get more accurate results and realistic diagnostics be either introducing a bleed (hole) in the vaccum line feed, or by dialing down the running speed with a variable power source (plug on a dimmer).

How are those chinese hand cranks??? I was thinking about grabbing a few/.
@okbridges

They are rugged and they work. And if you don't mind the sloppy feel of the crank they are a great value over finding an original. That said, once you've used an original crank, you'll want at least one to go on your favorite machine.

Record changers were a way of life for many years and in fact the 45 rpm was designed specifically to be played on a changer. Despite the mixed opinions on record changers, i prefer a fully automatic record changer. Its a romantic memory and one of convenience as well. Many hi fi geeks despised them for reasons of their own. However, nothing beat a stack of 45 rpm singles set in a personalized sequence and letting the machine go to work. It was also a marvel to watch. And yes, great sound could also be had from a good changer & tonearm/ cartridge combination.
