For me first time where I turned to map strategy game was in the ancient time when first Civilization came out. It was just squares moving on maps but man was it a good thing back then with real life leaders, city names, turns and technology.

The brainwashing has a downside (who would have thought): Thanks to CK for example, we imagine medieval rulers as controling clearly defined territories with borders when really borders, aside from natural ones, weren't really a thing until decently modern times. A medieval lord rules over people, buildings, towns, castles and where those are defines where the realm is, not like modern states which are defined by their territorial borders. One village belongs to this lord, another to the next lord, but there is no line in between usually where you cross from one realm to another. I'm not bashing the game here, it makes sense from a design standpoint, but it reinforces in us the wrong sentiment that borders like we know today have always been a thing.

The real problem is that the base paradox game is mostly just a skeleton that they build out from using 1,000,000,000 DLC. To there credit for the most part, the DLC tend to be worth it, but it comes at the cost of whatever game drops it has 1/3 of the content of the last game in the series until the first 37 DLCs have dropped.

I find it concerning that you’re blaming the consumer for having expectations that the sequel games will have a level of familiarity to the predecessor games with DLC’s. Your argument falls apart when you realize that every sequel game paradox has released in its modern history has been simplified on purpose to target a wider audience. These newcomers don’t have any history with paradox and yet we’re still able to determine that Victoria was a pile of garbage. We can try to say that Victoria three had a more traditional paradox fan based in other games like crusader, King three and hearts of iron four. But that still doesn’t negate the fact that a majority of the player base did not enjoy the game. My biggest concern is that EU five is taking so much from mods like meiou and taxes because the Dev team is utterly creatively bankrupt.

Everyone in the comment section is worried about how bare bones EUV will be but the bigger question is how much the content will actually just be from meiou and taxes. By everything we’ve seen it’s just an upgraded version of that mod. I’m hundred percent confident when I typed this out that the problems with that mod we’re going to see in EU5.

Victoria had and till the update has the problem with the replayability. I didnt spent that much time like the other paradox games (only 650h) in this one because every country still feels a bit like the other. But i think sphears of influence will fix that problem and also they need a balance of power mechanic. Then the game will be defently awesome :)

The best thing about it is you'll literally never run out of ways to play the game before you die. For me it's EU4. I don't like HOI4 because of how focused it is around having to play great powers. Not sure why I don't like Victoria yet, but I just don't. CK is a'ight (and it will always have a special place to me due to being my entry point into pdx grand strat), but character management gets a bit too fiddly when you're a perfectionist. I vastly prefer the empire building of EU4. I was finally starting to burn out around 4500 hours or so played. Then I discovered complete overhaul mods like Anbennar. 7600 hours now and it's not stopping anytime soon. Edit: Also get map mods that make the map fit your personal preferences. I use TBARW, although it requires a bit of personal fiddling to get it working on the newest version since it's not updated.

from everything we've heard so far from tinto talks this doesnt seem to be the case, and it sounds like youre just fearmongering. another thing to take into account, every paradox grand strategy game before ck3 was made by Johan, every game that has flopped, with the exception of imperator, was a game that Johan had no influence over.

If middle earth shit, command and conquer and star wars are your genre defining RTS games, than you are both a kid and don't know what you're talking about. Age of empires, stronghold and Warcraft series were the defining game series of that genre.

@@AndysParadox You dude are illiterate, there's no word "is" between middle earth and shit in my comment. It clearly states "if middle earth shit" meaning that the middle earth RTS game you mentioned there is shit. But that's not the point of my comment. The point of my comment is that I'm amazed that you call these whatever games genre defining for RTS. It's as if someone called Billie Eilish genre defining pop artist. And, therefore, I conclude that you're a kid or something and have never heard nor played genre defining RTS games.

Paradox release new game --> Doesn't have all the features of the old games' DLC because that takes time --> People call it a bad game --> They add the dlcs --> People like the game because of the features of the dlc --> Game starts to get old and people rush paradox into releasing the new game --> Paradox release new game

Out of anyone from Paradox, I will put all my trust in Johan. So regardless of what people say, I will be putting my money behind. If he can't bring his vision to their possibly best flagship game, Paradox Interactive is going to lose lots of faith, & some major restructuring will need to take place. In my eyes, the game will turn out just fine if it will be led for Johan till the very end, & have both a "Custodian Team", & a "Expansion Team" that Stellaris has. I just pray at the very least, it won't turn out like release CK3... oof, did I felt like Ck2 was what I should be playing.

I'm so glad this game is getting a revival. I've put a good 600 hours into it in the past year or so. There are so many cool historical details and interesting playstyles. Not to mention the immersive, and realistic the pop system and INCREDIBLE modding community. Hearing that the next Europa Universalis will have a similar pop system has gotten me very excited for the future of Paradox games

I didn't play the same games you listed but i did play hundreds of hours of AOH2 and man, i'm glad to know i'm not the only one that gets pissed because of what colors for are used for each countries in real life maps. Also the personification thing is too real, i get myself personifing not only my nation but enemy nations and allied nations, when in reality they're just plots of land with a color over them.

I understand the idea of starter all over again with DLC. Something the Sims have been doing for decades now... The problem with Victoria 3 is that it's literally boring... oddly just boring. It's like a glorified Cookie Clicker... wtf
