My favorite heavy sound that can be used just as much as the tonic is palm muted flat 5 chords. Power chords but flatten the 2nd note, palm mute it. It sounds massive with high gain.

absolutely. flat 5 has a real nasty sound

Hi, love your vids. You’re godly. Do you have to use thicker gauge strings for your down tunings? I’m just getting into playing music more seriously and I don’t understand the half of this but what do you recommend? I notice that everytime I try to play a lower tuning, I’m getting buzzing. Would adjusting intonation help? Thanks so much. 🙏
@jamecono
@jamecono 11 сағат бұрын
Thanks lmao. You don't necessarily have to, but I think the general consensus is that heavier gauge strings sound better (less buzzing, better intonation, louder) regardless of tuning. I put a set on my guitars that's pretty much standard at the top (.010) and heavier at the bottom (.052). You definitely want to adjust a guitar if you are going to put heavier gauge strings on it, though not necessarily the intonation per se (which just affects how 'in tune' you sound). You should add tension to the neck (maybe like a quarter turn to start if it's already tightened) and try to drop the saddle down to keep tension in line with the neck as much as possible. Ideally, the nut should also be filed to the right size for the strings, so, if it's an expensive guitar, I'd take it to a shop. All that said, a properly set up guitar might still buzz if you play hard enough.

Sure! I'm not much of a gear head, but there's a few pedals/amps that are pretty common in the genre.

Hey, is it Player II model? How is it if so? I'm looking to upgrage my Squire Affinity Tele to Fender Player II Tele with HH setup and rosewood instead of maple. I played it a bit in the guitar shop and it felt really nice, neck was comfortable and sound was pretty cool but im not completly sold on those guitars as the price in my country is pretty high. Love your channel, looking forward to more covers <3
@jamecono
@jamecono Күн бұрын
yes. i love it so far! I like the look of the rosewood ones a lot, this is just what they had at the shop when I went to buy one. I think squires look/sound great for the price too. In the us, player II's are like $800ish, so only a few hundred more than a squire. If it was more like twice/3x the price, I think I might have just stuck with a more basic model.

Do you prefer certain fretboard woods over another or dislike a specific wood for any reason?
@jamecono
@jamecono 2 күн бұрын
I've had four guitars in my life that I regularly played, two were rosewood, one was like jatoba I think, and this one is Maple. I like the feel of the surface of this neck a lot (maybe the best of all? I feel like that's probably just because it's new), but the neck shape did take a little getting used to. That seems like more of a factor in playability, in my mind.

Happy new guitar day, man! I just recently got my cousin's telecaster. He passed away August 6th. He was a year younger than me and we grew up learning guitar together. This guitar is in pretty rough shape, and I've been fucking around with it (first time ever adjusting string height or truss rod on my own) and I think I've just made it worse. I'm just going to take it to a guitar store like I do with the rest of my guitars. I've always been jealous of people who can set up and maintain their own guitars. Have a good one, my man!
@jamecono
@jamecono 7 күн бұрын
damn im really sorry to hear that, my condolences about your cousin. sharing in creating music with somebody makes a special bond and im glad at least you had those experiences and shared influences bc, in a way, they’re still with you when you play. that guitar is v significant and probably deserves a shop setup if you can swing it. if you wanna get better at doing guitar work, my rec is to just get a guitar you don’t care about and fiddle with it a lot so you get the feel for how minute the adjustments really need to be. i think it’s common for people to overshoot when they are making changes.

First off great video, banger as always. Second, question for anyone to answer really. I started a band this year and I was wondering what is the best way I can protect my ears while practicing or gigging? I've tried to use ear plugs but it muddies everything up for me and I don't feel like I can be as accurate in my playing. If there are any other alternatives I'd love to hear them
@jamecono
@jamecono 22 күн бұрын
Thanks! Higher quality ear plugs will probably do a better job of cutting overall volume while still letting a good frequency range be heard. Most professionals (and a lot of musicians I know) have paid the money for custom molded ear plugs that you have to get from an audiologist. That's a few hundred dollars investment at least, however. I personally prefer over-ear hearing protection. It might look goofier, but I think provides a good level of protection for much cheaper, and I personally don't find it too hard to play with them on. Vic Firth makes some you can usually get for like $50-100.
