Are the tires fast right off the truer? Or do they need a run or 2 on them?
@EdwardPickering
@EdwardPickering 3 ай бұрын
It all depends on how clean the cut is on the tires. If there is an unsightly surface on the foam then it will take about 2 or 3 laps to break in - which is not ideal. Ideally you want the tires to have a nice smooth surface before going out on the track.

Ideally you want to use the 12v supply rather than a battery because the supply voltage will be constant to give you a consistent result as wear/temperature/charge state/Internal resistance will differ every time you charge your battery supply. Ideally a constant voltage supply will give you the best/consistent result

This method IS precise... Until you put all upper arms and other parts on the car. Then the weight difference and difference in friction on parts on left to right for each arm will again be different and you need to adjust it again. I bet it will be off when the car is fully assembled without tires and you retake the measurement.
@alberfpv
@alberfpv Жыл бұрын
I normally use this method but with more weight (arms and transmission connected). With less weight the other side are going to go up more reactive so yo get less precision.
@MetalMathiasTP
@MetalMathiasTP 11 ай бұрын
I agree with your method, this is also better. More weight on arms and fully assembled car is better to do adjustment with. The weight difference in each side and friction differences also need to be take into account.

1st off thank you very much for taking the time to make the video. But I have a question you adjust all your collars on your shocks by measurement, so they all basically have the same spacing, I was watching another video that you have were using the 4 corners scales. And you adjust your collars to distribute the weight evenly, when you make that change balance is achieved, but doesn't that affect your cars driving characteristics, then driving since they are set up at different heights?
@EdwardPickering
@EdwardPickering Жыл бұрын
Whoa, it's been a while since I last saw this video. My best advice is to #1 Perfectly balance the chassis left and right. #2 Set the ride height front L/R 5.0 mm and rear L/R 5.2 mm #3 Put on a digital scale or tweak station and adjust the collars equal distance up or down depending on the tire loads.

Good stuff. What I do, cut the lowest part of the body, at the cut line around the whole perimeter. Then align the body side to side, front to back.. ream the holes.. sit the body on the chassis and correct the ride height.. then you know exactly where your wheel wells go.. making sure to keep them a couldn’t millimeters larger than the tires.. and making sure the steering is turns at full lock, so the body doesn’t hang up on the wheels.

May i ask what pod-droop does on the handling of the car, wwhat it cchanges on the behaviour of the car?
@EdwardPickering
@EdwardPickering Жыл бұрын
Pod droop controls the amount of weight transfer towards the front of the car. When you increase the droop this will give you more traction the opposite is true. Ideally you want to run less droop on high bite carpet (0.5-1.0 mm) and more on asphalt (1.0-2.0 mm). You will have to test and tune and find what works best for you.

What about drag brake and brake force what's a good starting point
@EdwardPickering
@EdwardPickering 3 жыл бұрын
I never used drag brake for a couple reasons. 1. Overheats your motor 2. Too much drag brake can make the car unstable entering corners. I would avoid using it altogether. As for brake force I would start with setting the radio at 100 and adjust the brake force on your ESC only. I would start off with about 85% and do a few laps and test your braking points and go from there.

This depends on a lot of things. 1. Motor type - ROAR? JMRCA? 2. Rotor - Steel? Titanium? 3. Rotor size mm - 12.5? 13.0? 13.5? 4. Track size - small or big?

@EdwardPickering
@EdwardPickering 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrCoops869 Without any prior testing with such a motor I would start off with 85~90 rollout and run motor timing (amps) similar to touring. I think you might have to run less timing (lower amps) to complete an 8 minute race and possibly to keep temperatures down.
