Great video! I am struggling so much with this machine. It will sew about 10 stitches and then my thread breaks. I’ve threaded and rethreaded and cleaned everything and oiled everything and cleaned the bobbin area. I’m using 66 bobbin. I’m at my wits end 💀

What do the lever and screws on the right side of the machine do? I have a similar machine but mine seems to be seized or locked up. The handwheel won't turn and when the machine is plugged in, the motor turns on by itself and won't stop unless unplugged. I've oiled it up as much as I can but it won't budge. I'm hoping it's just a switch issue.
@tksewingmachineandrepair42438 күн бұрын
IF the machine will not budge, it could be oil or possibly a broken gear. I would take all the covers off and visually inspect all the workings. Oil where ever meets metal. If the machine runs when plugged in, I am guessing that there is a plug for the light and the motor on the side of the machine? If so, switch out the plugs. If you dont have an outlet box, it is not wired correctly.

How strong is the motor? Can it sew through leather? How durable is it?
@tksewingmachineandrepair424318 күн бұрын
This is not the machine that I would use for light leather work. If you are going to be sewing anything but garment leather, I would invest in an industrial. Even an old one

@tksewingmachineandrepair424325 күн бұрын
It could be a number of things. I would start with cleaning and oiling the machine. I am assuming that you have an older model machine with metal gears.

Thanks for the demonstration, kindly explain to me the use of the pressor foot pressure dial;and how it is used. Thanks so much, in anticipation.
@tksewingmachineandrepair424325 күн бұрын
The pressor foot dial is used to regulate the pressure used when sewing. IF you are sewing thin fabric, more pressure. Thick fabric, less pressure. I always test on a scrap and dial it in before sewing my project.

I had a patron at the library I work at just bring one of these in - all rusty in terrible condition with a cracked case - asking if she could donate it to our branch. We're not supposed to say no to donations (though we do inform people that if we can't use it, it usually ends up in the trash). So against my better judgement, I just took it home. idk what I'm going to do with it - I can't afford to pay someone to restore it. But maybe I can clean it up. I turned the crank and poked all the switches and everything moves perfectly fine despite the rust, so I imagine it's restorable to some extent.

@@libraryoflilylol199 most of em are. Oil her real good and see if she makes a stitch
@libraryoflilylol19926 күн бұрын
@@tksewingmachineandrepair4243 Yeah I'll give it a go. Since the mechanical parts still seem to move well enough, I bet just cleaning the rusted components and oiling it up good will be enough to get it sewing stitches. I'm more worried about the electronics. I don't think I want to deal with that at all, so maybe if it makes stitches just from hand cranking it, I can look into modifying it with a handle and making it a hand crank machine. I'm also going to need parts. The person who brought it in said it was just missing the cord, but it is missing a lot more than that. Bobbin case, feet, slide plate, and spool pin are the immediate obvious things missing. But it seems like finding parts shouldn't be hard. There seems to be a lot of them out there.

@cynthiaporter8300Ай бұрын
When winding a bobbin, you loosen the stop motion wheel with the right hand, place thread on the spool pin and take the thread to the left between the tension discs on the top of the machine then over to the bobbin winder passing alongside a post that helps control the thread. Then through one of the four holes in the top of bobbin. Position the bobbin on the winder spindle and engage the latch by pressing against the bobbin. Hold the thread end to start winding. ( Hold tight until thread breaks ) Activate machine with foot controller. The full bobbin will automatically release. Tighten stop motion wheel. Cut thread. It will wind perfectly on the bobbin when you use the tension discs.

I just got one of these Singer 15 clones (I think it is a 15-88 clone) off Craig's List. It was branded as a Grand Sewing Machine on a really cheap and shabby formica cabinet and flimsy cast iron treadle. I just threw the cabinet away and will probably discard the treadle. I looked forever for information about Grand Sewing Machines but came up empty until I came across your KZfaq. I have not yet had time to fully explore the machine but it looks exactly like the one in your video and appears to be top quality. Thanks.

Make sure you are using a universal needle. And that it is inserted correctly. The flat needs to go towards the bobbin case. So if the bobbin insert from the front, the flat goes to the back.
