I remember watching this when it came out, it was a wonderful experience and I came to watch it many times since. I do wonder, is it a cultural thing perhaps? That it's seen as "problematic" when a main character has unsympathetic traits? I have no problem with a grotty protagonist, or a flawed hero - it makes everything more real and exciting. I didn't have any problems with the disjointed narratives - everything aligns at the end. Thanks for a solid retrospective, entertaining and interesting as always.

The borg stuff became a bit tired I agree. I liked Scorpion a lot and kinda of agree it's better than Best of Both Worlds because it's just a better payoff. But nothing tops Year of Hell / Equinox. I mostly watched Voyager casually but these arcs are what I rewatch all the time. I mean sit down and watch begin to end. I love these two stories.

The original idea for the film "First Contact" going back to the Renaissance sounds very much like an episode of Doctor Who! 😂 (And that spider-like concept drawing of the Borg Queen looks a lot like the Raknos Queen of DW's "Runaway Bride"! 😂) Speaking of DW, was Alex Delgado related to Roger Delgado, the first DW "Master"? 🤔

Oh my, I do not agree at all. CEO3K is about the journey. Its about finding wonder. I have seen this movie countless times through the many years since it came out. Just defending something that has made my world better through most of my life.

She and the late Kirstie Alley (Saavik on Star Trek II) got into an argument over politics on Twitter a few years ago. Alley was a Scientologist but Sirtis sounded more like a cult member than Alley did.

I _love_ this, but I do have to disagree slightly on Teal'c not being given a good reason to switch sides. The Goa'uld keeping their human slave worlds from achieving industrialisation was key to how their feudal empire maintained power, and Teal'c is seen at least once (including in a clip you presented) inspecting "Tau'ri" technology. For the first time in his long life he saw the potential for a human culture to resist the Goa'uld, and given he might never see it again taking the chance was a calculated risk.

ST 5 and ST 6 bridges are entirely different. The ST 5 bridge was demolished after filming, and the ST 6 bridge was constructed later because they weren't sure if ST 6 would happen due to the poor performance of ST 5.

Honestly saying that Generations is not cinematic is not knowing a bit about film making. Generations is one of the most cinematic ST movies and it has some of the best VFX. They specifically made the movie a lot cinematic to differentiate it from the show.

Oh Generations is incredibly well-directed and shot, but compared to First Contact it feels constrained by its TV resources.

When you give James Cameron a lot of money he's going to pour every bit of it plus his blood sweat and tears into the project and as a result he made three of the highest grossing movies of all time.
