Does Illustrator allow you to repeat a shape on a path other than a circle???? I have wanted to repeat a shape on a freeform path or even a rectangle... can it be done??? I haven't seen any tuts that can show this... (I want to create a rope frame, or a chain frame, not as a circle but like a rounded-corner rectangle)
@GDHT4 күн бұрын
Yes, although corners sometimes cause issues. First, make a pattern brush, and then apply it to your rectangle.

Great information. I have a degree in Landscape Architecture specializing in urban design, plus 13 years of work experience in resort design. I'm now taking a graphic design class at Noble Desktop and loving it ! Would a big company consider this alternative creative degree and background, or would it have to be specifically graphic design ? I'm probably more suited to freelance, but I was just curious.
@GDHT5 күн бұрын
I think it definitely depends on the company. I would say yes, for the most part, especially with a great graphic design portfolio. That said, it is a really competitive job market right now - it seems everyone is struggling to find a GD job, even those with experience! But it is doable. Good luck!!

You can add a suffix in "Value Labels" - here's an article I found that explains it (but I haven't tested this method): graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/62464/how-to-use-percents-in-illustrator-graph-tool

@@GDHT I just got it and the learning curve is steep, but I like what it can do in Photoshop. But I'm surprised there are no "good" presets for Adobe Illustrator on their Tourbox website. Is it possible if you could share your Illustrator preset and link in the caption? If you could I'd appreciate it.

To be honest, I don't use my Tourbox much anymore - I'm just faster on Wacom. But all my shortcuts were super unique to my situation, if that makes sense. So I doubt they would be very helpful for you!

Why did you mention that you mostly use Character Styles in InDesign? Does it work differently?
@GDHT8 күн бұрын
Usually I don't set up Character or Paragraph styles at all in Illustrator, since I don't use it for layout very much (although you can, of course). I usually do all layout projects in InDesign, just because it's specifically built for that (much easier to make multiple pages, flowing text, etc). Character Styles do work pretty much the same in both programs.

@GDHT8 күн бұрын
Sure! Go to the link in the description, then scroll until you see a big blue Free Download button under Item Details (it's on the left side). If you click once it will ask your email, but close that, then click again and it will download.

@@GDHT Thank you! Do you have recommendations to vectorize this technique? I'm creating tattoos and the printer is having trouble with the distressed files + allowing for a transparent background. Thanks again!
@GDHT7 күн бұрын
You can use Image Trace to vectorize the texture - it will have a LOT of points, just because of its nature. So it might slow down your computer a bit.

That's great!! If you're offering big files, yes, you can add a zipped file for download. Make sure your customers realize it's going to be a big file though - some older computers with low RAM might not be able to handle large files.

This doesn't work when trying to print a PDF from a PDF.

Do you mean in Acrobat?
@aerodylluk254311 күн бұрын
@@GDHT Yeah when trying to print to PDF from Acrobat the option you mentioned above isn't there. And when I go through the print options as you showed in your video it actually gives an error warning. Had quite an adventure trying to figure this out.
@GDHT11 күн бұрын
I mean, don't try to print. Instead of going to File > Print, go to File > Save or Save As.
@aerodylluk254311 күн бұрын
@@GDHT Oh yeah I tried that too, it didn't fit my needs. I needed to resize a PDF from A5 to A4 quickly. On windows I would print to PDF, use A5 paper and select fit to page. On Mac I couldn't do that. The save as option doesn't work because it doesn't allow you to access the print dialogue, it only wants you to save the PDF at its current size. Infact I couldn't find a way to make a PDF smaller in Acrobat. I could reduce the crops but that is all I could manage in the end. I do appreciate you responding however.
