This is probably the safest & quickest method out there. Just use the new battery's included screwdrivers as handles with the string ends wrapped-tied around them and you're good to go. Thanks man!

Er, it would help if we saw the Macbook Pro with the new battery installed up and running and everything working as it should. I assume it was, but . . .

yo!! This was genius. I had a similar but slightly thinner cord which I put a small amount of goo gone on and it came off so easily. THANK YOU. My battery pack swelled up and the computer wouldn’t work, I had a ton of unfinished music on there I was devastated to lose. I took the battery out so easily doing this and will just finish the tracks with no battery (plugged in) since I have a newer computer

Great video. Not sure why guys are bothering removing the remaining adhesive -- what's the harm in leaving it there. Also, once I could grasp the far end of each cell with my fingers, I discarded the thread, just using gentle upward pressure to SLOWLY prise it off.

How to install?
@joecburke

You can use a pure-wire guitar string, with each of the ends wrapped around a dowel of wood, to cut through the stickers under the battery blocks. more easily A strong nylon fishing line will work as well. Anything thick like this nylon cord is going to have a tougher time cutting through the adhesive pads, as deomnstrated.

You made things so much harder for yourself by choosing that nylon cord. I just tried the dental floss technique. Yes, it's not a strong as your cord, but it doesn't have to be. I just tied the ends around two old toothbrushes (great cleaning tools anyway; I always keep them around after I replace toothbrushes) slid the floss under the battery and sawed back and forth using just the force of two fingers on each hand. No need for a helper or any huffing and puffing, and no pain in the hands. After all, when you're trying to cut food, you don't just grab a knife and push down on it. It's a lot easier to cut back and forth with the knife.

Just a silly question from a guy who's about to try this because the cell in his Mid--2014 are so swollen up the back cover can't really hold them anymore: why would I want to glue the new battery? I'm not even sure why the original one was glued in the first place! Is it just me?
@UbhiTS
@UbhiTS Жыл бұрын
it's justy to ensure that once the battery is in there, it does not move even a millimeter and cause stress on the connection or the motherboard. I'll be honest, I've personally glued my batteries back since you need to do this only once in the lifetime of the macbook, or maybe twice in 4 to 7 years
@LucaCiminelli
@LucaCiminelli Жыл бұрын
@@UbhiTS Thanks for getting back to me on this but are you truly saying that they designed the battery and the only way for it not to move was to glue it and a set of four screws plus the fact that's locked on the bottom side because of its shape and everything is actually then kept in place by the back cover wasn't enough? My Mac is mid2014 and it still rocks! Changing the battery could be incredibly easy and yet it's been made risky and difficult. I don't know if I'll have to replace the battery again (it could be, e.g. this battery I just bought could be not so performant as I'm expecting it to be) and I don't want to go this way one more time, not even the slightest chance.

I don’t understand. A dishwasher is something you leave on. Every dishwasher I’d seen for 40 years is the kind where you select a cycle with options, press start, and walk away. When it finishes there is nothing to turn off. The switch modification makes perfect sense for an in-sink garbage disposal, but not a dishwasher.
@UbhiTS

Awesome, dude. I thought a thin strong thread would be best, but it turned out some braided nylon twine was perfect. I got the old battery out inside of ten minutes, i swear. Clamped the chassis on the edge of my workbench. Use gentle pressure and saw back and forth, don't rush. So much safer than prying up with a spudger. Thank you for the idea!

I viewed many of these battery removal videos and removed many batteries, this is by far the best. Why would anyone give it a thumbs down? By the way I have had problems with the cheaper batteries, they don't last a year. Maybe I should have paid for the Apple battery?

A word of advice: Do your best NOT to touch any of the printed circuitry on the Logic Board. The static electricity stored in your body can blow minuscule holes in the circuitry which you will not see. Your computer will probably work fine but you may have diminished its total life-span considerably without realising. That is why certified technicians must use anti-static procedures and why all printed circuit boards are transported in anti-static bags. It's very sensitive equipment. At the very least you should make sure the battery is completely flat before disconnecting it (to avoid possible fire by piercing a battery cell) and once disconnected, press the power button for approximately 10 seconds to discharge any power left in the system. Cheers.
