What a lovely surprise coming across this. I love Joan’s work, particularly the last one. I am an artist from Scotland too, in fact James I am you distant cousin - Peter Naughtie’s daughter, living and painting in Portugal now

Such a simple technique with amazing results, you are a wealth of knowledge and I hope to one day be a third of the artist you are mam.

She was a marvelous painter. You must be hugely proud of your grandmother. She managed to paint steadfastly and raise a family at the same time, no small feat. She had her trials and tribulations. I hope you enjoyed your comic. Take care.

So vibrant, lovely. I’m an artist/designer. A creator of a diverse range of work but all based on a strong design ethic. Sometime in the near future I might get in touch with the Studio, as I have a potential American client, for whom I’ve already done design work for. Love decorative textiles.

She produced a lot of beautiful work & showed a lovely sensibility in her handling of line & colour. Sad that she has gone away.

Great video - Eye of the Storm just aired here in America, and so glad to discover another contemporary master of the landscape. His views mirror many of my own - he even revered his expensive brushes the same way as I treat my own. Refreshing to hear his concepts of the😂 landscape explained. Just wish that in "Eye" we knew when he was working in watercolour on paper or in thin oil washes on gessoed board or canvas. Maybe I missed it, so will gladly watch again.

Thank you so much Mr Shanks for showing your wonderful paintings and working practice. MAGICAL !! I am still struggling ,wrestling with every painting . It never gets any easier and I have been at it now for 50 odd years.

Beautiful painter. Nice presentation. But I don't know why the work "requires interpretation and analysis." I love it just fine without any.

Joan Eardley, my fave British landscape painter. While she was English but worked in Scotland, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham - sadly omitted from the round-up in this clip - was from St Andrews but spent much of her working life in England, before returning in her later years.

I've been digging up clay from a field behind my house and processed a bucket or two. I have no idea what I'm doing or how it will turn out, but I'm going to try working with it like that. It was winter solstice yesterday and we just got the power back on after four days. Think I'll try an oil lamp and open it up from the inside like you do. So, so beautiful. Thank you youtube for a great recommendation.
