You should look up Ann Kulberg for colored pencil tips. Not that you’re doing anything wrong , just she is a master. Hope you look her up. Helped me out a lot with colored pencil

Is it better than sketching with colored fineliners?

I think it might depend on how you draw and your paper type! Fineliners especially water based ones might run the risk of pilling or tearing the paper if you layer too much especially without waiting for it to dry. Ball point pen also allows you to build up value similar to pencil! So just preference!

By the way, if you want to find good refs for each enstars outfit, go to the wiki! Select a character’s gallery, then references. There will be several images of each outfit organized for easy access :D I use it all the time when I draw enstars characters !!
