That calm almost rested hands on the keys. That is some legend playing.

He put all his emotions into his fingers not his face…. But these days there’s the newcomer, the winner of Van Cliburn competition - LimChan Yun who plays like Horowitz… the most…

Exquisite, thoughtful, provocative. Easily one of the loveliest renditions I have heard of this piece, made all the more remarkable in that it is a live performance. Thanks for posting, and thanks for excluding the audience's reaction, which might have only detracted from the piece's wonderful effect.

It's always remarkable the accuracy with which coughers cough at the most palpably sensitive musical moments e.g. 1:34 you really couldn't time it worse if you tried 😂 anyway - what an incredible performance, Horowitz was truly in a lane of his own...

Horowitz portrayed such a depth of emotions in this piece; he contrasted tenderness with his quiet, peaceful touch, with the strength of deep, powerful notes. I love that he did not rush; at times he very quietly almost seems to hold back a little, then breaks into the crescendo of deep, strong feeling. He “tells” a story of love to me, by playing this beautiful piece so exquisitely on his piano. I find myself holding my breath every time as I listen. And I never tire of listening to this exquisite interpretation by Horowitz. It’s my favorite. Timelessly beautiful!
He's dreamed a dream... And then he woke up 6:42 ✨

Oddly, though I revere Horowitz, here he punches some of the melody notes rather harshly (such as the very first one!!--almost as if he's trying to get the audience's attention... well. maybe he was.... he gentles down the first phrase quite quickly). Anyway. It's SUCH a gorgeous piece. For more recent, lovely interpretations, listen to Kissin, or even better yet, Khatia Buniatishvili--she has an amazing palette of touch and timbres, a wonderful wonderful musician.

I personally love how curious Horowitz looks while playing the piano. He observes and seems pleased with the delicate sound that is produced when his finger touches a note. It is so precise and so intentionally on every note and every pause. No one plays the piano like Horowitz. An icon of classical music.

Described once as the greatest musician who ever sang. Truly great singing. She once said that the most difficult thing about singing was going successfully from one note to the next! For me also wonderful to hear one of my teachers, Paul Hamburger accompanying her. Another truly great musician, from whom I learned an immense amount in every lesson.

Exquisite 🕊️ In an interview once, Mike Wallace asked him, "Maestro, what is it that makes your playing so special?" Horowitz replied, "I love every single note."
