Lagging the engine like that, low speed 6th gear and throttle to the floor is really bad for the engine. You are risking Low Speed pre-ignition, detrimental to an engine. That's was unfair assessment as this is a high strung engine and is not suppose to be lagged like that. Toyota even took it a step further by tuning the rpm's to stay relatively high so you can easily get in to boost with minimal throttle effort. What you did there with low speed 6th gear isn't normal and wouldn't expect anyone to drive like that unless you are an absolute novice with stick shift. I do applaud your efforts though of trying to make an all around video. I just would cringe if I was the owner of the GR you are driving watching you lag the engine and the baby car seat bouncing around like that. Lol

Looks like both of them experienced what I go through with my turbo econo-shitbox on a daily basis. She's temperamental, likes to heat her coolant to slightly above 90°c and has just enough suspension to stop the undercarriage from carving out a path on the road but boy is she fun when she gets above 3k rpm.

I immediately got triggered as soon as i saw the title of the video, but honestly i somewhat agree with some of the things you've pointed at. 8:05 that grin when you accelerate is what the S2000 is all about.

Visually I've always preferred the roadster to the coupe but, either way, I still want this car! Mostly for its engine. BMW has made many great engines over the decades and this is arguably the greatest, and the most BMW-ish of them all. Yes the modern turbo motors put out more power but there's a sensation and a sound quality to these highly tunes NA motors that turbos simply cannot replicate. If you want to drive a car that feels like a machine, and not a computer, these older M models are still hard to beat.

I have a colt with a 1.5l NA engine and It's great, but the only thing i hate about it is the fat A pillar wich literally hides pedestrians behind it so you have to phisically lean left and right to see people. It also doesn't have any suspension travel and its hard as a rock. Overall great car, love the hell out of it

Great review from the heart! I have the same colour, same wheels but the roadster. The coupe is one of the best looking cars ever, until you take the roof of the roadster of course ;-) Either way both are amazing!!! It's my daily, although a bit juicy and aggressive compared to the 3.0litre I had before which was also an amazing car. For me it's a keeper, I will drive this as long as possible. I don't want to drive a battery, who'd carbon footprint is worse!

Owned one. Beautiful coupe. The overall driving experience is just OK, though the M upgrades help. This is really a weekend ride, not a daily driver or a car you own for boot space or practicality- and because of that, I would go for a convertible...

Regarding the harshness of the suspension: you certainly didn't help it by putting 19" wheels on it. It might look a little better while sitting still, but that's the only advantage.

This is a very good EV with a small battery pack, 15 years warranty up to 1 millions mls, 320km real world range as tested in the Netherlands. Very good build, extremly silent etc etc. Fast charging kills batteries, and complete nonsense, we charge at night at home and at the office no range problems at all. So stop BASHING Toyota and Lexus

Okay, clearly you're being paid by Lexus when you talk about the "acceleration is brutal." You clearly have never driven a Tesla... This vehicle is slow to DC charge, does not fast charge in cold weather. It's humongous size battery for a paltry range is disgraceful (horridly inefficient.) When they say 10 to 80% charge in 30 minutes that only equates to 140 miles because the range on this thing is only 200 miles and that's in good weather not cold weather. The acceleration as aforementioned is one of the slowest EVs out there. They basically took 90% of the failed Toyota Bz4X spruce it up a little and put a Lexus badge on it. The front motors is almost double The output of the rear motor. So while on paper it has over 300 horsepower, vast majority of the work is being done by the front motor the larger one. It is not evened out like it is on a Tesla. The price is exorbitant, the range is atrocious for said price. The heat pump that they use in this vehicle is the same as the Toyota RAV4 prime hybrid. That makes it inefficient in enough itself because with the RAV4 prime when the weather turns cold and the vehicle needs to heat up it actually engages and turns on the internal combustion engine. However there is no engine in an EV hence they have to do all sorts of heat pump manipulation in order to heat up the cabin of this Lexus. So, when they advertise heat pump in their description it's not actually a heat pump design for EVs It is more often afterthought....

Thanks for commenting! You raise some really good points, and some not 100% right; I’ll try to respond to them. I’ve driven many EV’s (Tesla’s included) and a lot of high hp fast cars. The RZ isn’t fast like a mclaren 650s or modified GTR, but the way the torque hits instantly is shocking for an SUV that on paper doesn’t have that much power. The way I’ve reviewed this car is in comparison with the equivalent ICE cars. In saying that, I included a table towards the end of the video and the RZ’s 0-100kph time is comparatively fast at 5 seconds. There are faster Tesla’s and for less money! But there are also slower Tesla’s, but for a lot less money. We don’t really have ‘cold’ weather where I’m from, so haven’t really considered that directly. But you’re right that the battery is large and the range is poor, it definitely is the worst part of the car. Like most Lexus’s, this car shares the same basic platform as a Toyota. In this case, its also shared with the Subaru Solterra. As I understand it, the platform is also designed with hybrid in mind too, hence the weird/poor packaging and no frunk. My personal opinion is that the value for money on a Tesla is by far way better than this. The Lexus is much more plush and a nicer/quieter ride, but definitely not worth the extra price (for me). However, I also know many people who wouldn’t consider a Tesla and want a ‘traditional car’ that is a BEV. The RZ isn’t going to be a volume seller, and there are better options, but it’s still a very nice car. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
