Asian latinos are the FILIPINOS. 🇵🇭 🇪🇸 Philippines is the only country in Asia that speaks Spanish! ❤ SPAIN recognises the people from the Philippines as Hispanic. In fact, Philippines is the only Asian country that belongs to the Ibero(Spanish)-American Summit. Yes, Philippines is the only Asian country that Spain recognises as a part of Latin America. Even the Queen of Spain (Sofia) visits Philippines every ten years.

Spaniards: in the colonising process, achieved Phillipines territory and unity, organisations, wide cultural and religious influence. (Circumcision and annulment🤣). One great positive: stopping Islamisation 👌🎷🙏 --- unlike Malaysia and Indonesia. One devastating legacy: elitism (aristocrat class), where a group of Filipinos were groomed to be their proxies in controlling the mass. These privileged class of Filipinos were left with owning most of the choice real estate when Spaniard rule ended. No land reform. The mass left landless and poor, renting and toiling for the landowners. This was a tragedy. This accounted for the stark social positions between the super privileged rich and toiling poverty stricken mass. Even the Philippine government attempted land reforms, but with the rich in high places in politics, land reform failed. (In contrast, after Japan surrendered, land reform was imposed and absentee landlordism was abolished. Each family got a piece of land they can till for own survival, and not labor for some unscrupulous landlord.). Slums is a result of failure in land reform. 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑 Egalitarian. American experience in the Philippines was a net positive. Elitism was discouraged, but the landholders from previous regime continue to benefit. Now the social dynamics have undergone dramatic changes through domestic developments and economic improvements and earnings abroad. Remitances lifted millions from pathetic poverty.💸💸💸💰💰💰 Today: Philippines is a miracle and unstoppable. Of course, the poor will be always with us, but many have moved on with better things. Praise God❗

I know one of the children in this family. The story was supposed to be called "Lola's Story", but The Atlantic pulled executive decision and changed the title to "My Family's Slave". There are a lot of details that couldn't make it in to the story. The children all got together when they were older and confronted mom to get Lola documented (I've seen a picture of Lola at her Naturalization). They fought their parents frequently over it. The children advocated for Lola to work out of the home after all the kids were out and she happily worked for her own money for years before her passing. People forget that these children were also the "victims" of the time and culture. As they learned as adults, they tried to make things as right for Lola as possible. Lola was loved by those children until her death and still. I love talking about Lola with her because there's so much history that the public doesn't know. Was Lola not treated well? Absolutely. We are talking about a complex situation and to throw the kids under the bus, I actually find distasteful. I understand the feelings but the anger is misplaced in my opinion. Just like any high control situation (cults, etc), there is an awakening that has to happen in order to see what's going on. I think that those kids did just that. I may be biased knowing one of the children but I've had long deep conversations about this with them and I wish others could do the same. Maybe then they'd show more grace.

All the ignorant “Filipinos” in the comments. Ay. Shaming your ancestors with your colonial mentality🤡 Decolonize and heal generational historic trauma instead of projecting it onto others due to your own prejudice and wrong teachings… it’s never too late tlg!

The most ridiculous graspy book and talks from this guy. Latinos do not identify with Filipinos and never have. Filipinos don’t have Spanish blood, have faux surnames given to them, and do not even speak Spanish. His speeches are pipe dreams and you can tell he desperately just wanted to be part of something when he was young.
