Good to know as well. Thanks for sharing. Hard rigid Sch 40 pipe is the best way to go on pool plumbing. Not only to prevent insect damage but better hydraulics because the rigid pipe is slick on the inside to create less restriction on the water flow.

@@JayTuckertn Another great option is thick walled black polyethylene such as Goodall "Greenflex". It's smooth on the inside, bugs do not eat it, it's slightly flexible and I've seen it on pools built in the early 1970'a and it's still good! We don't built new pools and often have to route replacements pipes around bushes, under cement, etc. The only downside I guess you could call it with black poly is you need to use insert fittings and clamps but long as you say away from nylon or cheap fittings and use clamps that are all stainless (including the screw) this pipe can last 50 years in the ground. When flex came out it was touted as lasting 100 years and being easy to work with but after only 2 years we went back to using the old black poly for our repairs unless there's just no other option due to space constraints. On a new pool I can see rigid pvc being the way to go.

Epoxy pool paints dry within one hour, even when brushed on. some will actually dry within 20 minutes making it difficult to work with. Epoxy materials use a hardening catalyst .

If the steps aren't too big it might be cost effective to use spray cans of gelcoat. Dolphinite makes them, and will do custom colors so you can match the rest of your project. You'll still have to do the prep work, but you won't need spray equipment, gel coat, mixing prowess, or clean up.

Maybe they did it after everything was covered. The big thing on the bottom looked like a winch and you could see pulleys on the frame. So I believe it's a pulley system linked to the winch at the bottom of the pool. Not a hydraulic system. I wonder what they will do with the hole on the left and right though. I also was wondering what they were drilling at the top in the beginning. But since they attached the frame to it I can only assume those are the safety pins which lock and retract when floor reaches the top or wants to go down respectively.
