Outside of the bot scenario. Does your subscription allow a member to find option trade ideas? I am with TradeStation.

Yes, we have 3 tools to help find ideas: "Trade Ideas", "Earnings Edge" and "0DTE Oracle". All 3 scan the options market in a different way looking for opportunities and present them in a list that you can sort and filter to find a trade that matches your trading goals and risk tolerance.

These bots would really need to have the ability to define the slippage and take that into account in the price calculations.
@jackvslocum
@jackvslocum Күн бұрын
Hi vikable. They do take into account slippage. The bot is set to allow up to $0.05 slippage from the mid price. At $0.05 slippage the reward/risk is still likely to be above 100% but if not it will be 98%+ which is still favorable with a 56-70% anticipated win rate.

Hi Jack, just a thought on those OTM earnings verticals; Since they're such low probability/high reward trades, would it make sense to ratio them heavier on the long option side, even if by just one contract? That way, you're paying close to the same in premium, but with just one long option more you could be making uncapped upside potential if you get a runner. Same would of course go for downside directional trades, or if you're really wild you could bet on Red and Black at the same time. 🤪 Thanks, and God Bless.

Hi! I tend to use the short leg to reduce overall risk and increase the reward/risk ratio. The cost associated with the long leg is sometime too high to get a chance for a multiple that justifies the risk. For example, if the 100 long call is $3 and the short 102 call is $2.50, the the difference is $0.50 and on a $2 wide spread I have a chance at 300% return on risk if the underlying price closes above 102 at expiration. If I just bought the long 100 call at $3, I'd need it to close at 112 in order to get the same 300% return on risk.

I feel like that research only works in the same volatility range. The Vix was supper low for a long time, no longer.
@jackvslocum
@jackvslocum Күн бұрын
Hi Tim, I originally thought the same thing. However, what our research has shown is that the majority of large price moves caused by the increase in volatility happen overnight and intraday prices tend to get "pegged" in a certain range at a certain time of day a statistically significant percentage of the time regardless of low or high volatility. You can contrast the difference between recent vs longer term using the 3 time ranges. Comparing the 30 day vs the 180 day value will give you a better idea of what the current trend is and even with recent volatility the stats are fairly similar.

Hi, thank you so much for your videos, I noticed an issue in the opportunity when selecting the long call side of the iron condor, it was set to exactly $5 above of the long call leg, but it should be $5 above the short call leg, right?

Hi WhiteRabbit. The "Exactly 0 days" option is a new shortcut for the option below it set to 0 days. It will be in our coming release. The Peg spreadsheet was generated from the backtest results using code and the excel4node module.

Hey Jack. What do you think about adding time based entries into the automation such as only running the .4 after 1pm if the .5 didn't kick in earlier and and a later time for the .3 so the bot has time to get into the best trade?
@jackvslocum
@jackvslocum Күн бұрын
It would be easy to add time based checks and could be a good way to get into positions with the highest chance of success. The only concern I'd have is when volatility drops it gets harder to get 100% reward/risk later in the day so the bot may stop trading. Give it a try and let me know how you do!

Might be a good idea on the earnings trades to close out 90% as soon as the trade is profitable, and let the remaining contracts ride if there is a possibility for continued momentum.

OK this is kind of a confusing video because you have how many strategies here you have the iron butterfly you have the iron condor and then you have at the end up buying calls and put it doesn't seem like this is an ideal strategy especially if you're on a platform like Robinhood you can't even trade it to B SXPY andthey will get you out of the trade you know at like 315 or whatever if you are in the money. But it's interesting to look at it

Wow I run this on spx for last 3 weeks and I got it down but thanks for this tool! I usually use option strat calculator just to see where my breakevnns are. Trust me try running it 70 points out each way. Risk 7k to make 3k or two lots. When I close early because it nears my beewkeven I’m closing at least 800 plus profit. Yup butterflies cons are that u need to be dead on at close to hit 100%. This past week before the last two days I let mine exp for 97% and the other 95% two days in a roll. The time I been backtesting it, only once had it exp 99%. I usually never let it exp unless I clearly monitor until 12 and confident that even if it has that last 10 min spike I would still be good. I usually aim for 55% but been learning to take it at 23% because I still net over 800

I’ve been trading the short Iron Butterfly part of this strategy for quite awhile with decent success. I think it’s important to share that getting filled at $4.50+ on a 5 wide ironfly 90 minutes before the close - is not easy unless SPX is trading at least 10 points away. And of course - if we’re trading 10 pts away from the center strike, the probability of profit is pretty low (like really low). I like the idea of layering the long Iron Condor - thank you for sharing Jack!

@@robertcernera8905 gotcha, thanks! Think it would have been $135 on paper: $635 credit and a $500 loss from the ITM credit spread (also less the costs/fees trading the 10 legs and assignment fees on two). Still like 37% return on risk though, pretty awesome with a 0DTE trade that isn't buying OTM singles or something lol

This is not like a traditional backtest. It's showing you what would have happened if you found the same exact trade every single day the underlying traded over the past year. So if you found the same iron condor at 2PM in SPX every day for the last 252 trading days and the win rate was 10%, you may not want to enter that position.
