I LOVE coming back to watch this video essay. I like the concepts that Marx and Engels propose, but I think that all sorts of economic/power systems are flawed. Anarchism, capitalism, communism, socialism... all have their drawbacks and positives. But, much like Romero's works, this essay seeks to remind us that zombies are great for social commentary. Mind you, I enjoy my brainless (pun intended) zombie games and movies, but having depth to a narrative is always a treat. Thank you, Mr Marxist Media, for this. Hoping you are in good health. You seem like a pretty chill guy. Also, I'm surprised Madonna is fine just chilling with the zombies, as if she just wants food and attention like most dogs. It's neat that the series never went further with zombified animals because I enjoy the simplicity.

The biggest problem that we face as a society is that - in reality, as opposed to the sort of fiction seen in this video - "disasters" are never big enough to trigger any actual societal changes, or even to stop smug official cunts from just shrugging them off.

Still a great video and I rewatch it regularly. It never lost its actuality but recent developments really give a spotlight on the topics mentioned. E.g. the intensification of Imperialist conflicts en general and especially the Invasion and Genocide in Gaza by Israel in the name of "fighting terrorism" backed by western imperialism. We see the symptoms of the crisis of capitalism even clearer now than back then. But we see also developments in class consciousness all around the globe as a result. (At least here in Germany) the state cannot rely on the stability and self censoring off the press you mentioned anymore but also has to resort to crude brutality and criminalisation. The world wide Encampment movement, the revolution in Kenya etc. are some of these developments showing rising class consciousness. It's our task to organise to finally get rid of this rotten undead system as it won't die by itself.

Also ofc the pandemic where we have seen that the ruling class prefers the workers dying rather than give up on profit for just a few weeks. With the half assed measures and individualistic approach shaming individual workers if they can't afford to stay home sick without pay instead of a coordinated reaction. Just like the bourgeois media blames the individual worker for climate change instead of the system that only produces for profit without paying attention to the devastating consequences. With Musk's and Bezos' space adventures we see the "apres moi le deluge" attitude of the bourgeoisie.

This just passed through my feed. A terribly tragic affair. Horribly compounding small errors that made a huge total catastrophe. I can’t even begin to imagine what the poor ATC went through as she tried everything in her power to reach the tower, and then seeing the disaster happening. Many “if’s”.. If the first lorry hadn’t jumped the median. If the chem-tanker hadn’t jack-knifed. If Heathrow hadn’t been congested. If the pilot hadn’t walked to his shift. If the family hadn’t left the car. If, If, If….

It was all down to that first lorry in my opinion, since everything was fine up to that point. If this had happened for real I like to think there’d be a lot of anger for pinning the blame on the ATCs, and I’m sure some would want to get to the bottom of what caused that lorry to crash, because it’s bound to be driving without due care and attention or dangerous driving.

I went up to Manchester on a train strike day in April. Something had happened on the M6 further up causing the delay to keep going up, then when I eventually got onto the M56, traffic had been slowed down there due to a breakdown. Going past Manchester Airport as well, I couldn’t help but think of this documentary.

I live in the United States and our infrastructure here is quite crappy as well. We drive on roads built in the 1950s and this is 2024. Thank God President Biden got that infrastructure bill through Congress and signed it into law, so we are seeing some improvement. However, my native country of Sweden is probably laughing at us because their infrastructure is top notch. We have a long ways to go, and I don’t understand why we can’t do this state by state. I understand that you can’t improve infrastructure all over the country all at once. You need to start locally or at least, like I said before, state by state. However, something must be done because our infrastructure is that of a third world country.
